I thought the Chiefs were making a blunder, but that doesn't leave out the tRaiders...
It will be hard for the Chiefs to keep CB Brandon Carr even if they want to…
With the Chiefs CB Brandon Flowers set to receive $10MIL per year for the next 5 years, they jump out and sign CB Stanford Routt for $19.6MIL for 3 years. The details of the deal are inknown to me at this point, but if I had to guess I would think Routt will receive around $6.7MIL per year. That will make paying the CB position group at least $16.7MIL and that’s not counting Brandon Carr or the rotational players…
But, the Chiefs maintain that they still want Carr on the team!?! That can’t be possible without sacrificing all of the other position groups, because as CBSsports ranks Carr the #2 CB in FA, Carr will demand a contract similar or even more than Routt. If it were the same then the Chiefs are talking about paying around $25MIL for that position group alone. Yikes! Would the Chiefs actually be foolish enough (I thought they were foolish for signing Routt when Carr is better) to sign Carr to that big of a contract to play a rotational role? The drama builds in KC with the saga of Paoli and fatman…
Meanwhile the tRaiders are stuck with paying Routt $5MIL this year without him. I love it!

I would pay him $7MIL a year.
Let’s face it, the Broncos will pay Goodman in an excess of $4MIL this year and Carr is a few years younger and at least as talented as Goodman. We could get another 5-8 years out of Carr. The investment would speak for itself.

Make no sense for Chiefs to have 3 high-paid corners
But it also makes little sense for us to have 2 high-paid corners. With Champ here, I’m afraid Carr is not coming to Denver.
The reason the Chiefs signed Routt
is they know Carr wants Flowers type money. Carr is not as good as Flowers. Carr is about equivilent to Routt. KC got a hell of a deal. Oak is paying part of their #2 CB’s paycheck. Carr will get his 9mil/yr contract because good CBs are rare. I don’t think he’s worth that much though. Neither is Finnegan. MHR fans bitch ‘cause we’re paying Goodman 4 mil/yr.
