Report: Knowshon Moreno Healing Well, Expected to Return
From PFW: Broncos RB Knowshon Moreno is healing well from the knee surgery he underwent in November after suffering a torn ACL. According to a team insider, Moreno is likely to return in 2012, though not with a very big role. His salary-cap number is fairly low next season, so there is little risk in keeping the former first-round pick on the roster to see how he recovers from the injury.

Great news
Hopefully Moreno can stay healthy and play a bigger role than expected next season.

Still wouldnt be surprised if he's cut or traded in TC
Broncos will address this position this offseason, so we’ll see if he sticks
According to the bloggers yeah.
I’m leary of saying they will for sure address the RB position. I think we will get a speed guy, other than that IDK.
Believe you can and you're halfway there.

Unless he goes in the tank
I can’t see him not making the team. We have already paid him the money, and now he is making a low base salary (as all players do on a rookie contract). So cutting him and adding another guy would not save much money. And the reality is the guy is talented, he just needs to play like he did just before he got hurt more often.
I think he will do a fine job as a change of pace/3rd down type so long as he doesn’t get back to the dancing style.
I disagree with you on being cut
Scotty, his contract is virtually nothing and he’s a former first round pick. Low risk, potential high reward. He’ll either be traded or he’ll be a Bronco. My guess is, the latter.

When healthy Moreno is a great compliment to McGahee
If he can stay healthy through TC I expect him to see a lot of playing time.
I am a bear of very little brains and big words bother me.
Moreno
Wow, that injury must have been pretty devastating if they’re already talking about him not having a very big role.
I really don’t understand why people have been down on him. The only test he’s seemed to fail is the dubious “eye test”, but… his yards after contact have always been good. His pass blocking is good, his catching out of the backfield is great. Maybe his best draft slot would have been half a round later or something (although I think people tend to have an overinflated expectation of what to expect from a particular draft slot anyway), but even if that’s true, you can’t hold that against Moreno.
I hope he makes a full recovery, and that the team then continues to give him every shot he deserves, because I think his talent is still pretty amazing.

fully agree tunesmith! Moreno is hammered on because
of his high draft status. Not his fault, guy has been good, much better than who’s backing Mcgahee now. I think he’s a good football player who shows great heart and leadership. Let’s see what another year of seasoning has done for him.

yes... John Fox and Studesville LOVE Knowshon
he does show great intensity, passion, and work ethic. He has a unique skill set as well. I would MUCH rather see him toting the rock than Ball or Jeremiah Johnson. Perhaps Mario Fannin can show his merit next year as well.
People forget what Knowshon did his first two years (minus the fumbles). He had over a grand, all purpose, both years, and totaled 18 TD’s. He was poised to break out this year during the KC game. Just so happened that was the game that ended his season. I think he’ll be a great rotational back next year.

You know what the "eye test" tells us?
He is injury prone and he can’t find his way out of a paper bag. McGahee is much bigger, yet he is able to find holes with patience and vision.
If you take a look at his situational stats for 2009-2011, Moreno is consistently worse when the Broncos are ahead, which means his overall average is skewed by gaining “empty” yards. Ignoring where he was drafted, one could argue he is the Kyle Orton of RBs.
It isn’t personal – he’s simply a disappointment and in 2009 and 2010, turned out to be a waste of roster space and a lot of money. Looking ahead, now that a lot of money has been spent on him, the bright side is that he is finally about to be paid what he is truly worth and he is young, turning only 25 this summer.
I am not interested in your exaggeration of reality. I am interested in reality itself.
It is not an eye test it is facts....
He is not fast, he does not threaten a defense around the corner. He does not exploit the seams and creases in NFL defenses which are the norm as opposed to sizable holes. He can’t stay healthy. He could not beat out McGahee and he did less with the spaces he was given than Tbuck. He fails as a change of pace back due to his being slower at hitting the holes and maybe slower in foot speed than McGahee. He is also a much less physical runner than McGahee. He does catch the ball well out of the backfield. He does do a very good job running screens.
Since he won’t cost the broncos anything, might as well keep him around. Hopefully get some production out of him in the passing/screen game. Maybe, just maybe, he will learn that an NFL running back has to exploit seams and cracks in the defense instead of waiting for a gaping hole and run violently through contact.
If the broncos make the mistake of thinking he will be their “change of pace” back, it will cost them.

Can't trust him to stay healthy...

He will 100% for sure be on the team in 2012. Why wouldn’t he? He can’t stay healthy, but he has always had talent as a pass catcher and he is coming cheap. He will be on the team as a 3rd down back.
I would like it if the RB corps looked like this:
McGahee, Rookie, Moreno, Fannin

I would like it if
we plan on him just being the 3rd down back and he proves he still has more. Think Reggie Bush this year in Miami.

I think Lance Ball will be here
Ball is Studesville’s protege and he had his best season. Studesville is sticking around. His production off the bench was actually pretty solid. He kicked in 550 yards with 400 rushing yds. at better than 4 yards a crack. He is workmanlike, mediocore, sometimes surprising.
Knowshon will have to win his spot. I always pull for Knowshon, in part because I want him to succeed so I don’t have to deal with the fact that he is a blown pick. I went to camp day one to see him and I was shocked he is very slight in stature. I hope he has a growth spurt. His karma thus far is pretty bad.

Ball
If Ball is going to stick, he seriously needs to work on his pass-catching skills. Most drops on the team, in a receiving corp that had a lot of drops in general.
fair enough criticism

no doubts tune
I guess Ball is fine enough for a 3rd stringer… but I’d rather see some more talent added in his stead. A rotation of McGahee, Moreno, and (insert name) will do just fine. Ball offers nothing in the receiving dept.

Ball will never be
a better option than he already is, he has reached his ceiling , I like the good he’s provided but if we can upgrade, let’s do it. Plus, Beyonce can upgrade me anytime she wants

Moreno, when healthy...
… has been far better in all phases of the game than Ball. Better running, blocking, catching, etc.
Moreno just can’t stay healthy… which could cost him his roster slot if he gets hurt before final cuts next year… but otherwise Ball loses out to Moreno unless Ball significantly improves or Moreno significantly regresses.
if he can't stay healthy....
I’d agree with that.
If he’s healthy, he absolutely will still be around somewhere.
Probably 50-50 either way.
I personally believe this is good news
It will be his 4th year in the league… a do or die year for sure (at least with us). If we draft a decently high round RB, like I suspect we will, hopefully it will light a fire under Knowshon’s hiney.

I think this allows us to draft McGahee's future replacement this year.
Then we can replace Moreno next year in the draft or FA.
