A Interesting 2012 Mock Draft

For this mock I did not make any of the picks .I just used CBS Sports prospect rankings and took the player they had rated at the slot the broncos would select without any trades . I thought it would end up a bad draft but as it did not address all of the Broncos needs it didn't come out as bad as I thought it would .

now on to the picks

Star-divide

Round 1 # 25 D Tackle Fletcher Cox Mississippi State

Round 2 # 57 OLB Sean Spence Miami

Round 3 # 88 MLB Vontaze Burfict Arizona State

Round 4 # 120 WR Joe Adams Arkansas

Round 5 # 129 D END Jake Bequette Arkansas

Round 5 # 152 RB Tauren Poole Tennessee

Round 7 # 216 FB Brad Smelley Alabama

I thought that this turned out rather interesting and most of the picks were not ones I would have selected however it was a lot better for the Broncos than many mocks I have seen so far . I am looking forward to free agency to see how the team changes and get alot better feel where the Broncos will be heading in the draft .

Well Broncos Country what do you think of this mock ? Have fun tearing it up as that is all it was intended for just fun .

Pretty amazing ultra...

Is that karma or what? A lot of people talking about a lot of needs and other than the secondary they’ve been pretty much covered at random. Even the slot for certain positions projected by some.

Good post

I saw those ranking too, Ultra and couldn't believe how far they dropped Burfict.

I like the picks, but think if Burfict tears up the Combines like I think Zack Brown will then who knows where these guys will get drafted…

Yup, only reason Burfict may fall is character issues.

From what I’ve seen of him in games, he’s a hot head and lacks dicipline when provoked.

by SoCalBroncsFan on Feb 6, 2012 4:28 PM MST up reply actions

Where would spence play?

he’s strictly a Will. We have DJ and woodyard there. No way Burfict is there in the third. We’ll get a RB in the first 2 rounds i believe.

by Scotty Payne on Feb 5, 2012 5:02 PM MST reply actions

IMO

Neither DJ nor Woodyard are so good that they should automatically be given the position. I like the idea of bringing someone in to compete at Will.

by tunesmith on Feb 5, 2012 6:13 PM MST up reply actions

I think we underrate Woodyard.

When he plays, he’s all over the field making plays.

by Scotty Payne on Feb 5, 2012 6:54 PM MST up reply actions

Not to me... it wouldn't make sense to bring in another Will.

The only option I can think of is Brown, but then EFX would either move Brown or DJ to mike. But you undermine DJ’s ablities. It’s not like he had over 90 tackles and 5 sacks in less than 16 games.

by tiderfootball09 on Feb 5, 2012 10:43 PM MST up reply actions

DJ

Just going by the stats collected over at profootballfocus, D.J. is below average. Particularly lacking at run defense. The only area where he tends to consistently do his job is in pass coverage – they rated him -0.1 there. He was rated in the red in every other category.

Wesley didn’t score much better. He’s significantly worse in pass coverage, but he actually plays pretty well in run defense.

by tunesmith on Feb 6, 2012 12:27 PM MST up reply actions

Wood is going to get more $$

from another team this offseason. We are not going to pay him stater $$ to back up DJ, and someone else will pay him that $$, so I think he will be gone. If that is in fact the case, then a spot is open for Spence to come in and battle for.

I think this would be a haul for us, and I would say YES to that group coming on board. My only complaint would be that we still need more Oline depth/talent, but we can address that in FA too. I could see Cox and Vontaze starting. I could see Spence and Smelly geting significant time. That would be a great draft for us; two starters and another 2-3 significant contributors.

by brettden on Feb 5, 2012 9:09 PM MST up reply actions

what about CB and Qb

we have one QB on the roster (Weber being Practice Squad) and both our starting CB’s being over 30. I think QB after the 3rd and CB in top 3 if the draft falls that way at all. And any mock without either is not realistic

by sbhchawk on Feb 5, 2012 6:01 PM MST reply actions

Regardless of the draft we will sign QBs

via FA. I would be suprised if we don’t sign at least two FA QBs even if we draft one. Weber will have his chance to make the team during camp, maybe Quinn comes back (he knows what Elway wants, and he can see that TT struggles to do what Elway wants – if he hangs around he will get a shot). I agree about CB, but sometimes it just doesn’t fall that way. I would rather be lean a CB and pick through UDFA and the late FA (camp cuts) than force something in the draft and overlook a guy who has a strong shot at making the 53 and contributing. For example if Vontze is there for us in round 3 we say yes rather than looking for a CB, QB or any other spot.

Can we hurry up and get next season here already!!

No CB?

I prefer almost all Defense and one RB…go to Offense next year…

I came on MHR tonight and saw a mock from ultra

and said “Alright!” because we have seen eye to eye before, but not here. I only agree with Cox and I don’t even think that that’s right because I feel DT will not be the #1 pick.

Believe you can and you're halfway there.

Vontaze Burfict in the third?

by Will Schmitt on Feb 6, 2012 3:38 AM MST reply actions

I think that is why ultra did this.

To show how far CBS has Bufict falling. We don’t even have pick #88. We have #89. CBS has Bernard Pierce, RB, at #89. After 3rd round there are comp picks thrown in, so our #s aren’t even confirmed yet.

Burfict won’t fall past round two. That’s like saying Mike Tyson will go to round two.

Believe you can and you're halfway there.

Hahaha

So sorry ultra. You’re right. I’m wrong. The Raiders forfeit their pick moving us to #88.

Believe you can and you're halfway there.

Digger I agree

I don’t think Burfict will fall this far after the combine but you never know what teams may think . However if he were to fall to the Broncos pick at 88 I think fox and Del Rio would have to take a long hard look before passing on him . I do however think it is time he no longer be mocked in round one . I don’t think anyone even the Ravens will take him in the first round.

by ultraclassic04 on Feb 6, 2012 8:00 AM MST reply actions

Maybe the SB winners will.

I know the guy called in from substitute teaching got a pick, but yeah they need LBs bad.

Believe you can and you're halfway there.

by Digger24 on Feb 6, 2012 9:12 AM MST up reply actions

I'm sure they will go over him with a fine toothed comb, because those (Burfict's athleticism) kind don't come around very often.

Vontaze Burfict is like a diamond ring… Girls love them and want them, but men hate them and have to buy them. It’s just part of the process that makes the world go round. One thing I could see good coming out of this is… The Ravens will probably be losing Ray Lewis in the near future, and will need a new MLB (Burfict would be perfect for them) and draft behind us. If the Broncos show extra attention to this kid and somehow word leaks out that EFX will indeed draft him, then we might have a trade partner for an extra pick and not moving down to far. Making that 2 players for the price of moving down a couple of squares…

I agree about the Ravens..

but I think they’ll like Dont’a Hightower from ‘Bama a lot more. He’s been in the 3-4 system and is a perfect fit systemically.

Amazing strong draft for us just going w/BPA at our slot!

Sean Spence is rumored to be playing SS in NFL. Joe Adams is our answer to KC’s McCluster, only better. Cox is a monster, and Burflict in 3rd might be as big a steal as Joe Adams! Very impressive. However, I thought we lost, buth then gained a 6th round pick? I had us a 8 draft picks?

Draft Picks

The Broncos sixth round pick goes to Philly for Joe Mays trade .as far as I know which i’m not sure of is the Brady Quinn deal is compleate as he never got on the field after the trade so they don’t lose the seventh round pick . this gives the broncos a pick in each round except for round five they have two one from Saint Louis for Brandon Loyd and there own . no pick in round six (Joe Mays trade) so tI have the Broncos with a total of seven picks .
