Should Tebow start at MLB?
I'll give you a minute to prepare for this. Just bear in mind how much I like Tebow. My sig is dedicated to the guy. So I'll be the man who opens this can of worms. I'm not trying to mock Tebow and imply that he won't succeed as a QB. I feel quite the opposite there. I just have questions abut whether EFX will provide the way to Tebow's will. I want Tebow to succeed in the NFL. So here are my reasons as to why he can help the Broncos more on the other side of the ball as a MLB.
1. He's built as a LB.The former Gator stands at 6'3 236 pounds. He also ran a 4.7 at the combine and had a 38 vertical jump. This puts him in a similar mold as Sean Lee and a bit better then Irving. His physical skills aren't elite at LB as at QB but he is still good. There is very little argument IMHO; Tebow is a good enough athlete to play MLB. Putting on 10 pounds would be ideal and working on agility would be the only 2 areas worth working on physically. Plus he loves physical contact and hitting people. A trait key to being a good LB.
2. Our D needs Leadership
Our defense has had a glaring hole at MLB ever since Al Wilson retired. Ask any Bronco fan what they miss the most in their MLB and they pretty much answer "Leadership." With respect to Mays, Irving, and potential FA Dan Conner, Tebow is that one of a kind leader that is cool under pressure and animated with the game on the line. He revs up his teammates in a way thats similar to Brain Dawkins and Ray Lewis. This is what I missed the most in our playoff rout by the Patriots, our defense was lethargic and did little to stem the tide of Tom Brady's vengeance.Switching Tebow to defense will cure that. Atleast in the attitude department.
3. We can coach him
Tebow is a guy that is extremely coachable. He works hard and studies hard. To be honest, aside from his faith, charities, and family, little else seems to matter to him as much as football. This makes him an ideal student. We have the ideal teachers in John Fox, Jack Del Rio, and Richard Smith. Fox and Smith have sent Jon Beason and Von Miller to Pro Bowls and JDR is a former Pro Bowl LB himself as well as the LB coach during Ray Lewis SB win. The combined knowledge is enough to get Tebow up to speed at the position. Plus the fact he started 16 games as a QB in the NFL himself will give him a unique advantage that no other MLB has. Perhaps a "spider sense" for what the offense may be doing.
4. It Unleashes him on every Play.
I'm tired of hearing that McCoy molded the offense around Tebow. The zone read was good and logical but the play calling hindered him, or he hindered it, whichever way you like it, it wasn't a happy couple. We stayed true to our roots and grinded the ball out resulting in the #1 rushing attack, a result I am proud of. With that though came putting Tebow in the bad position of having to pass on 3rd down. There is no way you can get in a passing groove when the playcalling goes Run, Run, Pass. If it's not a completion then Colquitt comes on and to the bench you go. Foxball did little to take advantage of Tebow's playmaking ability aside from a very predictable draw once in a while. He basically played game manger.
Tebow on defense would be different. He could step up and make a tackle, drop into coverage, sack the QB. Their would be no excuse about how Del Rio isn't using him right. You just put him on the field and let his football instincts guide him. Ofcourse you coach him, but the 4-3 wouldn't limit his skillset. It'll give him a better platform to make plays.
5. I Believe in Foxball
John Fox got to the Superbowl and nearly won it with Jake Delhomme as his QB. During the Superbowl I noticed that the Giants gamplan was to control the clock running the ball and have Eli make accurate throws. They kept Brady off the field for a good portion of the first half with their defense too. They basically played Foxball. Ofcourse Brady found a way to get a lead and the Giants started passing more but towards the end they went back to running and had Bradshaw not fallen in the endzone Brady would never of got the ball back and Tynes would on nailed a short FG. Point being; I have faith that the Foxball system of strong running game and strong defense will work.
6. We can replace him at QB.
People love to point out about how Qbs run this game and I agree. But things are changing, the Niners and Ravens don't have elite QBs and if it weren't for a few bad drops they could of been playing in the Super Bowl. Smith and Flacco are good Qbs but they don't carry their team, their defenses do. This is the same story with the 2011 Broncos, if the D kept the score reasonable then Tebow and Co could win. If we got blown out then our offense didn't have the caliber to match it. Some say we need an offense that scores more, I say we keep building defense.
People also point out that, and I agree with, that with the proper coaching and accommodation from EFX that Tebow will improve. But the golden question: Will EFX commit to that? By all accounts they haven't and won't. What they basically promised us is that come Training Camp Tebow would be in consideration for the job. John Elway will draft a Qb this year and I think it will be a lot earlier then people want. So why not get a quality prospect to play QB as opposed to a 6th round talent?
If you haven't guessed, yes I am suggesting that we draft Kirk Cousins. He's a 3 year starter in a Pro Style system. For some reason his last game against Georgia really stood out to me. He ended up throwing 3 picks at inopportune moments but he kept his composure and guided the Spartans to a win. Check out the highlights here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=owBOdv4BITA as well as a scouting report: http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/players/1272574/kirk-cousins
I'll wait til your done.
Done? Okay, by all accounts Cousins is a 3rd round guy that can become a good starter in the right system. He's perfect for our system of Foxball. Lots of handing it off and making short accurate passes. He also is a pretty high character guy and was a Team Captain 3 times. He has a lot of the Tebow intangibles except he's not polarizing to America (not that i give a ____ people dislike Tebow). So if your not sold on Kirk Cousins, please watching the speech that will sell you on Kirk Cousins ...
This is a lot to swallow I know. I know Tebow wanted to be a QB ever since he was a little boy. But this isn't highschool where you picked a school that would let you play QB. This isn't college where Meyer recruited you to play a QB/FB slash type role. This is pro football and you get paid to help the team win.
Maybe if EFX made him play MLB he'd be good at it?
Maybe if he was good at it he'd like it?
Tim Tebow for starting MLB? Kirk Cousins for starting QB?

You know I love you Zac,
but I truly believe Tebow would retire from the NFL and devote his time to his foundation, charity work, and ministry before he would be forced to play any other position than QB.
Nice read though.
Well, that would be anti-climatic.

Am I correct in assuming you are being sarcastic
since it makes you feel so good?
Good write up and very nice read though. I know it took a lot of effort to put something like this together.

I'll feel better if we sign Dan Conner. Or get a sign from Nate Irving.

That's a ways off though.

fyi
Dan Conner is awful. I looked at stats from advancednflstats, pro-football-reference, and profootballfocus. He’s one of only three starting inside linebackers that they unanimously say is worse than Joe Mays.
I took him off my wish list tune.
I told Doc that too yesterday that Connor wasn’t as good as everyone was making him out to be.
"I am not better than anyone else just because I play football."
Tim Tebow
he was in college
but those Penn State Backers haven’t been living up to their reputations. Even Paul Posluszny…. GREAT stats, but anyone who loves the team’s he’s on, knows a lot of those stats are meaningless when the tackle came after the sticks were moved.

Awesome write up. The logic... not so much
Is he physical enough to be a LB I believe so, but I think I’ll stick with him playing his own position which of course is the best passing fullback ever to play in the NFL. He needs the ball to win games. I’d love to see him on kick coverage just one time though… Just once EFX
Tebow time is coming on like a freight train. Orton is stumbling over every plank, tie and rail.
Interesting speech by Cousins
It’s nice to hear athletes talk about responsibility with regard to privilege. Happens so rarely these days.

Short answer. HELL NO!
Long anwer. WHAT THE F$5K MAN!? WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU THINK? HELL NO!
I know, the lack of football is hard, but take a walk…well maybe not. Get some rest, have someone get rid of sharp things, and put something safe on the sharp corners. Come back in a week.
But in all honesty man…COMON MAN! I hope you’re kidding, with a dash or two of sarcasm….i hope so.
Sorry Zac, had to choose the 4th option my friend

Whatcha gonna do, brother, when the Broncos run wild on you!
remember the skit on SNL about the Scarlet Letter?
Will Ferrell was in it? The girl was exiled with “BJ” on her chest…. all the dudes from town were trying to talk to her… then up walks Will Ferrell (who also was exiled) with a looming “BF” on his chest. Needless to say, the menfolk scattered. LOLOL!!!!

Honestly broseph... I'm not gonna read this post
HOWEVER…. I do agree that Tim Tebow would be a monster Mike Backer. But not only MLB – Tim Tebow is a great football player, plain & simple.
TE? Yeah… that too.
RB?… we already know the answer.
DE? Would not doubt it.
QB? Quit putting off the inevitable!!! Tim Tebow is YOUR Denver Broncos starting QB for the next decade +!!! Mark it!!! Next.

If you are a team that runs the ball a lot, why would you want a short passing game. The other team would already be up near the line of scrimmage to stop the run so the QB and WRs would have to navigate a ton of traffic to make the short passing game work.
A good running game and emphasis on the short passing game doesn’t make a lick of sense. The correlation is, in fact, negative.
A good running game should be paired with a good deep passing game. Lots of small plays (like 4 yard runs) with the always threat of a 60 bomb to break the game open.
Tim Tebow is Denver's 2012 starting QB. I'm not even kind of sorry that offends some of you (including you Elway).
But don't you want to see a damn jump pass?

correct McG
and then…. when the defense has backed off because we’ve been ripping them with the deep pass… THEN we can throw some screens and short outs in there to gash them for some YAC. But I agree, with so many defenders in the box, telegraphing their plans to stop Tebow / McGahee, it’s imperative we gut them with a barrage of deep passes. Just ask Blitzburgh how it worked out for them?

And while we're at it.
Champ should be moved to WR or FS
DT would be a great TE
Joe Mays would be STUD FB!
Wasn’t DJ a great RB coming out of HS, let’s give him another shot!
Eddie doesn’t catch all that great so let’s make him a CB.
We’re totally wasting Orlando Franklin at OT, he would be a BEAST DT!
Thanks Zac, clearly all we needed was a complete paradigm shift for how we think about positions. I mean if Wes Welker can play safety anything is possible.

I'm not sure Dig
Back in 2008, Larsen and Woodyard looked like the next, great Bronco LB’s. McD wanted Larsen to focus on FB and ST’s…. and there he’s sat since. I think he would be a better MLB than a FB. He has no receiving skill or running skill…. just a lead blocker. He has made some clutch catches though.

ain't happening
tebow will play qb somewhere in the nfl, he will not agree to a position move. read his book, it’s evident. hopefully, it’s here, but tim’s chances at qb are directly relative to the investment this team puts behind him and his strengths. we need to go all-in here, not try to make a square peg round.
the mcd/mccoy offense and the short passing game? needs to be shelved, because it isn’t going to work with tebow. we need innovation here(jim fassel, please), this shit is working only because tebow is running it. can he play mlb? oh, yeah. but i agree his bigger value is at qb with the ball in his hands. nate irving, step up.
taste my blintzkrieg!
the 3-man rush is an admission of lunacy, cowardice, and defeat.
I almost voted for your an idiot
But I know you werent being glib and I know your not a hater. I DO like the thought of him being unleashed and I bet he WOULD make a good LB, but his dream is to be an NFL QB and I know if givin a chance will be a good one. P.S. I like Kirk too. Seems an upstanding young man.
