Let me first start off by saying that I am a long time reader first time poster. I know it's a cliche but it is also true in this case.
For the past 24+ hours I am seeing a lot of talk about Tebow leaving if Manning is signed, and that Elway is trying to pull the starting roll away from him like last year.
Lets remember who we are talking about here. EFX is not going all in for Castle (Thanks again for that McD), or Flynn, or even trying to sell the farm to move up and draft Luck or RGIII (Like Washington just did). This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to sign a first ballot HOF QB, that in my opinion still has a few years left in the tank. They owe it to us as fans and themselves as an organization to explore this option.
I am a huge fan of Tebow and want to see him succeed as a Bronco but I am also aware of his current limitations. We all know that Tebow can run the ball like no other so I will not even address this any further, from here on out I am talking about his throwing ability only. Tebow had times in every game last season where he looked both brilliant and like a rookie that will not make far in this league. Consistency is the key for an NFL QB, not flashes of greatness. I know he works hard and he inspires his teammates to rally behind him which is why he needs to stay on our team to lead them in the future. Right now he does not posses all the tools needed to make the Broncos Super Bowl contenders.
As for Elway yanking the starting roll away from Tebow again just remember what was really said. Elway only said Tebow will be the started heading into camp. That is training camp, not the regular season. It has also been widely covered that the broncos would add 2 more QBs either through the draft or free agency. Tebow knew a month ago he would have to perform well to keep the starting roll through training camp and into the new season. Nothing has been promised to Tebow by the Broncos that they cannot (and will) easily and happily deliver. If Tebow wants to be the starter next season all he has to do is outperform any other QB at camp, be it Quinn, Webber, a rookie from the draft or even (GULP) Manning.
If Manning does accept the Broncos offer I see it as a blessing for Tebow. What other QB will have a future and current HOF QB helping them along in their progression? Answer, none, just Tebow. Steve Young and Aaron Rodgers sat behind a legend for a few years before getting their shots and they seem like pretty successful players. Signing Manning will also put the Broncos in contention for the AFC West and a very deep playoff run. The FA flood gates will open and we will be able to fill the holes now while drafting young talent to develop and maintain a championship team for years to come.
My plea to Tim Tebow: Stay the course. If the Broncos sign Manning, stay the course. Study him, learn from him, learn from Elway, and you will be great one day. Keep the faith in your team and your teammates. Your work ethic and drive make you a powerful force but with their guidance you will be one of the best ever.
