I just made a comment on a fanshot and I felt like expanding on it so I decided to write a brief post as well for more people to see. I just want to reiterate what the title says. Everyone calm down. It's been two days into free agency and half of MHR is going crazy over the fact that we haven't signed anyone. Two days! And the worst part is that the panic and freak outs were so predictable. This happens every year during free agency. We don't come charging out of the gates like other teams and it instantly becomes a blame game on the front office and people ranting on their cheap tactics or the fact that they don't want to win badly enoguh. After two days people are already making the same accusations. A big part of the problem is the expectations people have going in. Free agency is hyped up like the draft and we are all just waiting, on the edge of seats for free agency to start and then when it does and nothing happens immediately you feel let down. That is one of the problems of a 24 hour news cycle. Everyone wants instant results after having waited and when nothing happens you don't understand why after all the hype. People are just to impatient.
And I think most would agree that building through free agency rarely works and that good teams aren't built through free agency, they're built through the draft. You need to be able to draft and develop players. That is how consistently good teams like the Packers and Steelers have done it and that's how the Broncos should approach it. I feel as though that is obvious to most people on here. And yet just a glance at other fanposts and I see titles like "Offseason hell part 3... or 4? I'm losing count" and "Really? 2 days and no FA's". Yes, really 2 days. Oh the humanity. If all you want are your free agency thrills then go and become a fan of Washington or Tampa Bay or Philly. Those front offices love to spend and spend quickly. You'd love being a fan there. You won't have to wait two days. But if you would prefer that your team is built for long term success than maybe we should all just calm down.
