I know several of us have been in a civil war lately over this whole Manning ordeal, and with it looking like today might bring a possible decision, I wanted to stay away so I wouldn't be raining on your parade. I can't stay away from MHR on a day like today though, so I feel like the only option is to create a thread where those of us who absolutely hate the idea can come and rant with each other without getting into fights and ruining what many Broncos fans have been waiting weeks to hear. So if you're like me (or just want to read our opinions without trying to pick fights with us) come on in to the anti-Manning thread.
Let me start this baby off with a rant of my own. It seems like ever since Manning was released from the Colts, every single time I start to relax with the thought that he's going somewhere else, the Broncos jump back to the top of the pack. Seriously, this roller-coaster is like our past 4 years of instability all wrapped up into two weeks. We go from the highs of an emotional playoff victory with a team leader who gives more back to the community than anyone I could ever imagine and instead of treating him half as well as Christian Ponder we throw him under the bus at the first opportunity to do so. Personally, I'd rather have 10 seasons like last year over 3 chances at a Super Bowl followed by a decade of the 4-12 seasons we witnessed in 2010. IT'S NOT WORTH IT. Especially since the odds are against a 36 year old man who is injury prone returning to the championship. Sure we witnessed it with Elway late in his career, but he's an exception to the rule, not the standard. The argument that angers me the most is that people are saying we can continue the rebuild that was starting to look so good and just pick up where we left off with a new quarterback once Manning leaves. B.S. First of all, instead of looking at young FAs to develop into our future squad and getting rid of the vets like the teams who are persistent playoff contenders, we're going to be the team picking up those vets to try to win within the next three years. Also, rebuilding through the draft? Rumors are now that we could trade a first round pick to get Mike Wallace. He's the kind of player we should seek out through free agency, NOT WITH DRAFT PICKS. Seriously, I could be wrong and I hope I am, but I see bad things in our future. And if we do all of this crap to steal a quick win and it fails... I'm going to be one angry fan. If Manning comes, I'm not going to be happy with wins... it will take a Super Bowl to appease me. And if he doesn't get one and we trade Tebow who finds success elsewhere, I'm going to hold it against the front office for the rest of my life. Sure, I'll always be a Broncos fan and cheer for the team. But they're taking a huge risk that I don't want and the potential failure outcome of this is too large. EFX had be so excited that they were going to do things the right way, to make us a perennial contender... Now I just see us as burning out. The sad thing is, many teams have proved that with the right gameplan, you don't have to burn out or fade away... you can stay at the top. No one will win the big game every year... but shouldn't making the playoffs more often than not be the goal anyway?
