Do you recall last year when Bowlen fired the major portion of the scouting department? When the Goodman's got the boot, i wasn't so sure things would be better. Especially after Xanders kept his job and Elway and Fox were new to the franchise in a lockout shortened year.
So i guess im saying..... The main thing is not to panic. Xanders was obviously part of the solution and not part of the problem. Things don't always pan out on the field (Rahim Moore), but on paper, after last years draft, i was proud and impressed with the way the draft was handled. I didn't like all the choices, Franklin being the one i disliked the most, but the Broncos had him on their board at that spot over defensive tackles, so they took him. They really didn't reach to fill needs, passing on Paea, Nevis, Ballard, Austin, Casey, and Klug. At first i was pissed, and panicked a little, as were several posters who lobbied for those names to be called by EFX. But then EFX grabbed Warren and Bunkley, great moves on paper to shore up a deficiency. Bottom line, if DT- Ty Warren is healthy, even at only 85%, he is better than any DT weve had since Trevor Pryce. Warren at 85% helps the D as much as Manning at 85% helps the O. Hopefully they can both obtain over a 90 percentile in their recoveries. So we might wind up with a 1st round RB. The D will get more pass rush opportunities if were up by 14 points, but what do you think Fox is going to pressure McCoy to do if were up 14 pts with the ball? We sure as hell will be using a bunch of play action but i guarantee you its still 2 runs and a pass on our 3 down set, no matter if its pass 1st down and run 2nd & 3rd or run, pass, run; we will pound the rock. Manning has never had that in a ground game, phylosophically OR physically. Fox is 3 yards and a cloud of dust old school, but learning new tricks for a star pupil. McGahee is an old school ground and pound, don't go outta bounds, bring on the hounds type of back that Manning also hasn't had. Were not gonna get a DT that draws a double team on pass plays. The edges will always get chipped or doubled, especially the blindside, but Von and Doom can work free so fast, all we need is a split second more diciplined tight coverage and the sacks and turnovers will mount. Don't be surprised if we go RB-CB 1-2 or CB-RB 1-2 and pick up a run stuffing DT on day 3. The Pass rushing DT's are gone by 25. Usually... I trust EFX has a master plan, and i feel much better about the FO going into this years draft than i did last year, How bout you?
