I am stopping by to pay my respects to your retiring Safety Brian Dawkins. Man what an amazing athlete to have been blessed to have been able to see play. Whether he was an Eagle or a Bronco he played with a reckless abandonment that was a real pleasure to watch. That is even coming from a Raiders fan who was irate when you guys made the very intelligent decision to sign him after the Eagles ill advised releasing of him. Even after 15 years of playing he still was a force last year and is a class act leader that will be tough for your team to replace.
There are few people that played in this league that were more of a joy to watch. I truly mean that, so much so that I still enjoyed watching him play even though it was for one of my team's biggest rivals. Brian Dawkins is the epitome of class. His demeanor was exemplary, always there being a coach on the field. A true Field General that I will be sad to no longer see roaming around the secondary looking to take someone's head off.
Even his message to the fans for his retirement speaks of the incredible person he is. I copied it from your front page article because I thought it really showed just who he was and why he is one of my all time favorite players:
"The Lord has blessed me to play in the NFL for 16 years. I would like to thank the Eagles & the Broncos 4 believing in me. I would like 2 thank all my teammates & coaches that I have been blessed 2 go to battle with. Along with u, the fans 4 helping make my career 1 that I have enjoyed tremendously. In other words. I am announcing my retirement from the NFL. #BBTB"
I wish nothing but the best for Brian Dawkins. Enjoy your well earned retirement Mr. Dawkins, 16 years in the NFL and you were magnificent in each and every one of them.
