Down to the Wire Mock Draft

We're in countdown mode now folks and I love it! I believe John Elway when he says he wants impact players over positional prospects. I also believe cornerback is a bigger priority for us than most of us thought considering we were willing to trade for Asante Samuel after adding Tracy Porter in free agency.

I think our biggest needs headed into this year's draft are DT>CB>RB>DE>OLB>ILB>QB>C>OT but we're not going to be able to fill all those holes in one draft. The goal of this mock draft is to build a Super Bowl team THIS YEAR! Here we go:

Round 1 Picks

1. Colts - Andrew Luck

2. Redskins - Robert Griffin III

3. Vikings - Morris Claiborne

4. Browns - Trent Richardson

5. Buccaneers - Matt Kalil

6. Rams - Fletcher Cox

7. Jaguars - Justin Blackmon

8. Dolphins - Ryan Tannehill

9. Panthers - Melvin Ingram

10. Bills - Michael Floyd

11. Chiefs - Luke Kuechly

12. Seahawks - Quinton Coples

13. Cardinals - Riley Reiff

14. Cowboys - Mark Barron

15. Eagles - Michael Brockers

16. Jets - Dontari Poe

17. Bengals - David DeCastro

18. Chargers - Dre Kirkpatrick

19. Bears - Kendall Wright

20. Titans - Stephon Gilmore

21. Bengals - Courtney Upshaw

22. Browns - Jonathan Martin

23. Lions - Peter Konz

24. Steelers - Amini Silatolu

On to the most important picks:

Round 1 Pick #25: Denver Broncos select Nick Perry, DE, USC

With Dre Kirkpatrick and Stephon Gilmore off the board the best impact player available is Nick Perry. We could go with a defensive tackle like Jerel Worthy, Devon Still, or Kendall Reyes but I don't see any of those guys as impact players. Nick Perry would immediately step into the lineup as an upgrade over Robert Ayers.

Round 2 Pick #57: Denver Broncos select Brandon Thompson, DT, Clemson

Losing Brodrick Bunkley to the Saints hurt but I think Brandon Thompson would be a perfect replacement. Thompson isn't going to be a sack machine but I think he will be better than any other defensive tackle we have on the roster and could start immediately.

Round 3 Pick #87: Denver Broncos select Casey Hayward, CB, Vanderbilt

I didn't think cornerback was a priority anymore when we acquired Tracy Porter from the Saints but after the revelation that we tried to trade for Asante Samuel I think it's pretty safe to say we're going to target a starting caliber cornerback in the first 3 rounds. I've had a man crush on Casey Hayward all year long; I think after a year or two learning our system he will be a great replacement for Champ Bailey.

Round 4 Pick #108: Denver Broncos select Robert Turbin, RB, Utah State

I have my questions about Robert Turbin's durability with his previous ACL injury but after we brought him in for a private visit I think EFX is very interested. Willis McGehee is a great running back but he wore down at the end of last year and I'm not sure he's as good catching the ball out of the backfield as Robert Turbin will be.

Round 4 Pick #120: Denver Broncos select Ryan Lindley, QB, San Diego State

I think Peyton Manning will carry us deep into the playoffs and maybe to a Super Bowl title in the next 2 or 3 years but I also think we need to start grooming an eventual replacement. Ryan Lindley has prototypical size and a good arm but he's raw.

Round 5 Pick #137: Denver Broncos select David Molk, C, Michigan

Our offensive line depth scares the hell out of me and I've been less than impressed with J.D. Walton since we drafted him. I'm not sure David Molk is a starter right now but I think he represents good depth and might light a fire under Walton's ass.

Round 6 Pick #188: Denver Broncos select Levy Adcock, OT, Oklahoma State

Levy Adcock isn't exactly the offensive tackle I'd pick out of this year's crop but after we brought him in for a private visit I bet he's our pick here. Adcock is not a starting caliber left tackle but he could step in if somebody gets hurt and we definitely need the depth.

Well, there you have it fellas. Tell me what you think and where you'd make changes. GO BRONCOS!!!
