I am not so sure Denver has improved at several positions as much as has been advertised...
The CB's we added were all #2 CB's for a reason. If we added 3 clones of Andre Goodman, did we get better? If we added Asant Samuel, a #1 CB, i would be more impressed. Florence is average at best. Porter is up and down. Inconsistent is a better term. Hence a 1 year deal. Champ is older, but still at an all pro level. People are raving about the offseason helping our last rookie crop, but its called a sophomore slump for a reason. Several players flash for a game or two but its hard to get that consistency from young plyers. I could see Moore stepping up and Cater regressing just as easily as the opposite senario most fans envision from our 2nd year safety duo. I read the TE thread, and I'd much rather Super Manning had Antonio Gates and any other bums than the collection of no stand out qualities te's we have. All good but none great can be a problem. Ask George Karl. I don't buy the automatic improvement from our wideouts either. Ball placement wont cure drops. Maybe Tebow's left handed spin and dead ball contributed to the drops, but those boys at Florida sure seemed to catch his balls ok. Those COLLEGE wr's. I know Percy Harvin was there, but that's my point, Percy has hands. Our guys... not so much. Add to that both Decker and Thomas have signifigant injury histories, and i see potential problems, not guaranteed greater successes. Matt Willis shouldn't even be on the roster. ST saves his but, not his WR work. I saw him close his eyes on a jump ball like he was afraid to get hit. You can't coach fear away. Almost how Rahim Moore seemed to change after that preseason fine. His checks are nice to us, but that fine hurt his wallet and that affected his play the rest of the season. Can't coach that away either. If it's in the back of his mind he won't play free and reckless until HE exercises that demon. Our RB's lean toward the good but not great side as well. No true bruiser, no true burner. You can say Hillman can take it to the house on any touch all you want, but the stopwatch says otherwise. 4.45 in the 40 is nothing special in the NFL. Especially at 5'8"? 205lbs? (guessing) If he was 250 with that speed he'd be special. Maybe he will be special, but his speed isn't. If McGahee losses a step, which RB's do more often than not over 30, our ground game is in shambles. We started last season hoping McGahee had enough in the tank to complement Moreno. Now People are calling for Moreno's release acting like McGahee is a lock to preform up to last years UNEXPECTED results. The OLine has a couple average to below average spots, but is above average overall. DJ is a possible loss for 6 games. No healthy proven stud DT. And don't try to feed me the Bannon is good stuff. Clone him along our line and were mediocre at best. Again. And he might be the best thing we got goin at DT. Elway said we gotta be Great on one side of the ball and good on the other. I see a Great QB and a Great CB on each side of the ball and a bunch of plug and play parts everywhere else. Loads of potential, but until you do it CONSISTENTLY... I want ALL our Broncos to exceed expectations, but the kool-aid was a lil too sweet. Had to water mine down a bit. Hopefully not too much. GO BRONCOS!
Poll
Have the Broncos done enough to be Great on either side of the ball?
PM makes the offense potentially elite. Add young WR's and #1 ground game. we're Elite (17 votes)
Champ has more pass rush push with Wolfe up the middle. PM scores and forces teams to pass. Our Elite rush elevates the D to Elite (30 votes)
Even with PM, the offense lacks true gamebreakers, but they'll be good. Just not Great or Elite (10 votes)
The D is shaky against the run and turn on the playoff loss to NE if you wanna see our pass D (5 votes)
Not Elite on either side but dam close. We will be a Force in the West (34 votes)
