We currently have 4 QB's on the roster. 3 of which are competing for what we all hope is Mr Irrelevant but as history has proven over and over, the backup QB can be a very valuable asset. While we are all hoping Manning returns to form and has a Pro-Bowl type year, many of us are concerned that he might not make it through every game.
Word out of Dove Valley this week is that #2 Weber is running with the 2nd string. This makes me smile for 2 reasons. One is that I have felt he is a very capable QB and have had HIGH hopes for him. Two, the #2 guy is not Hanie.
The battle for the #2 spot off the bench is going to be a good one and one that we have not had any excitement at since ... well...... maybe Van Pelt? I hope that Weber is showing some stuff that gives him an early advantage to getting the reps he needs to learn enough to be "the guy" if Manning has to sit out a few games. Not sold on Hanie however I did really like him at CSU.
#16 Oswieler will be a non-factor early but as the 3-4th preseason game, I am betting his athletic ability will show us all enough to see why we drafted him so high. (not that I don't think we could have gotten him much later).
This is one training camp battle I had not planned on and will be excited to watch.
Other battles that will be fun and important to watch:
Linebackers other than Miller.
Who will be the Nickle/Dime DB.
Oh I hate that we have over a month to just wait and wait and wait. I want it to all start NOW
