As anticipated, the Broncos have placed DT Ty Warren on the IR with a triceps injury, and waived offensive linemen CJ Davis. Also the Broncos cut lineman Wayne Tribue from the practice squad. As we reported yesterday, the Broncos filled the roster spots by officially resigning Caleb Hanie and officially signed free agent Center Dan Koppen. The Broncos filled the empty practice squad spot by signing DE Jamie Blatnick, who competed in training camp with the team.
Koppen entering his 10th year, has won two Super Bowls with the New England Patriots, where he spent the first nine years of his career. The former fifth-round pick missed all but one game in 2011 after being placed on injured reserve. In 2007, Koppen was named to the AFC Pro-Bowl team.
Hanie was released last Saturday before the Broncos season opener against the Steelers. Coach John Fox called the move "procedural," in order to provide "some flexibility moving forward." Hanie completed 22 of 39 passes during the preseason for 246 yards, a touchdown and an interception. Hanie will serve as Peyton Mannings backup going forward.
