Common Opponents: Broncos vs Ravens

This is a short post looking at how these teams fared against teams they had in common. This matchup is an interesting one, because these two teams basically had the same schedule this year, save the four NFC games. I thought I'd do a little comparison of how each team did in a few areas against these common opponents.

The numbers you see for each teams' division opponents are averaged between the two games they played. There were 8 different common opponents, which accounted for 11 games for each. They also played each other of course, which means only four games this season were different opponents. I would guess this is fairly uncommon.

I'd say our offense clearly out performed theirs in our common games. They have a more consistent running game, and we have more turnovers, although the difference is only one turnover every other game. Our passing game, 3rd Down efficiency, and scoring isn't even close.

Denver's defense is pretty even with Baltimore. One caveat might be that Baltimore played Pittsburgh twice, but neither time against Rothlisberger. They played NE quite a bit better than we did, and with Lewis and couple of other guys back, they'll have a good defensive effort.

This is a game we could absolutely lose. In 1996 we had the 1 seed and an absolutely Super Bowl caliber team. Jacksonville was the 6 seed (I think) and walked into Mile High Stadium and beat us. Looking back now, I think we had a team that could have won 3 SB in a row, had we dispatched the Jaguars that day, but it wasn't to be. Be careful not to talk too much trash these last couple days--let the team do the talking on Saturday. Let's not jinx this.
