First Step Toward Second Super Bowl

January 9, 1999 - The Broncos followed up a 14-2-0 regular season by defeating the Miami Dolphins 38-3 in the Divisional round of the playoffs. This was the first step in their becoming back-to-back Super Bowl winners.

The Broncos took command of the game in the first quarter on two Terrell Davis touchdown runs. The Dolphins made it 14-3 in the second quarter but Denver answered with a touchdown run by Derek Loville for a 21-3 halftime lead. The second half belonged entirely to the Broncos as they added a Jason Elam field goal, a John Elway to Rod Smith touchdown pass and a fumble return for a touchdown by Neil Smith.
