It's Tough to Find a Good Barrel Man

I hate to say it but what the new Mile High needs........ is a New Barrel Man.

The guys and gals that are now the face of Broncos fans are pretty lame. Not the folks themselves but their get-ups don't quite cut it. I mean those orange shaggy guys are downright embarrassing and kind of creepy. The fans need someone to look up to. The fans need someone to look to for inspiration, The fans need someone to prove that it's never too cold to cheer on your Broncos. The fans need a leader like Tim McKernan to step up and step into that roll. Tim was synonymous with the Broncos, Denver, bravery, fandom and dedication. Things that are lacking in todays Fans.

For three decades Tim was a positive presence at not only every Bronco home game but at some away games. Heck, even visiting fans and players respected him. He was not just a fun, silly act like the Bronco fans currently have and most NFL teams currently have with their beads and painted faces. Beads and painted faces, that about sums up what you see at a Ravens game. Beads and painted faces, what a joke. Tim was a tough dude, tough like the Broncos, tough like a Bronco and everyone knew it and it made everyone a little tougher and we were proud of him. I know that it is still a sensitive subject even three years after his passing and five years after he hung up the ol'barrel but it's time for Barrel Man II. The Broncos have the VP, the HC, the DC, the CB, the LB, the QB, the LT and the WR but they don't have the FAN. The Broncos need the FAN!

Let's face it, players come and go, coaches come and go, owners come and go, cheerleaders come and go, "thunders" come and go, "Miles" come and go but they are always replaced so to speak. They have to be or we couldn't carry on, it's sad but true. Even the great ones come and go, that doesn't mean that they are forgotten. Same holds true for the Barrel Man and luckily his get up is not difficult or expensive to replace. Simply paint a barrel, buy a pair of boots, buy a cowboy hat and some suspenders from the arc and you got a start. I'm sure we all know at least one big bearded big dude that would fit the bill. So why not encourage him to give it a shot? So why not bring back the magic of a leading fan? It's long overdue, don't you think?
