Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning Nominated for FedEx Air Player of the Week Award

Chris Humphreys-USA TODAY Sports

It may be time for the NFL to alter the name of this accolade to the FedEx Peyton Manning of the Week award.

Seeking his third such award in a four-week span, Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning has once again been nominated for the FedEx Air Player of the Week award on NFL.com. Manning was nominated following Denver's 52-20 rout over the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 4.

Manning won the award in Week 1 and Week 3.  After going 28-of-34 for 327 yards and two touchdowns on Sunday, he is primed to win it once again. The award is not "in the bag," however, as New Orleans' Drew Brees also threw four touchdowns on Sunday, while adding 413 yards through the air. San Diego's Philip Rivers (401 yards and three touchdowns) is also in the running.

Unlike Brees and Rivers, Manning did not play a whole game in Week 4—the Broncos pulled him and put in Brock Osweiler early in the fourth quarter. Despite only playing three quarters, Manning's numbers are comparable—and perhaps even more impressive—than are those of the other two nominees.

Regardless of whether or not he wins the award this week, Manning is on an historic pace.

Voting for the award is open until Friday on NFL.com. The winner will be announced on Saturday. Manning's next performance is scheduled for Sunday in Dallas.
