I keep seeing comments referring to Beadles as the weak link. Weak link in what? An OL that now has Manny and Clark on it? The support for this conclusion is "I've seen it with my own eyes!" Oh, well in that case I'm convinced. Or PFF said it. Really.
I just can't figure out why so many fans think PFF grading is the nuts. It ain't. OL line grading is extremely difficult unless you are on the Oline coaching staff, have the All 22 film, and know what the particular OLine assignments were for that play. PFF doesn't have that stuff. They're guessing.
Beadles has allowed one sack in the first five games plus preseason. He's likely to end the year allowing only 2 sacks and 15 or less yards in penalties.
Kuper has allowed 1.71 sacks per season, and Vasquez 2.75 sacks per year so far in his career. Every time Beadles makes even the smallest mistake he gets five awsh*ts to everyone else's one. It's ridiculous.
The only grading that matters is grading done by the Broncos coaching staff, and they don't show any inclination to replace Beadles--even occasionally.
My two favorite diarrhea quotes involve Kuper "lurking in the wings" and Beadles being "pushed around by big DL's" or "thrown around like a rag doll."
Kuper is a backup for injuries. Nothing more. Why do fans think the coaches haven't seen him play in practice or don't evaluate everyone on the OLine every week. They do. They sure as hell don't call PFF! Why do you think Kuper agreed to a big salary cut--because it's better to sit on the bench than it is to sit at home.
No one in the NFL is big enough or strong enough to throw Beadles, or other line guys, around like rags dolls. It's called OLine parity and it's a fact in the NFL. When Beadles or any NFL lineman gets caught with their feet in the wrong position and leverage working against them, they can be pushed aside or shoved flying toward the ground--the fan perceived rag doll throw happens to ALL NFL lineman a few times a year. Beadles catches DL's off balance from time to time and throws them to the ground, but there's no posting saying look how strong Beadles is he's throwing DL's around like rag dolls. (I'm sure the opponents SB Nation posters are complaining that their guy got thrown around like rag doll by Beadles, the weak link in Broncos line!)
OL's are supposed to get pushed around by DL's. They are more vulnerable to being beat in a a straight up horns locked position. They are suppose to move their feet to keep the DL's moving--away from where they can hurt the play. That's why coaches evaluate OL footwork, lateral speed, agility and vision. Otherwise why not just throw the biggest hunk of buffalo meat anyone can find out there?
The Broncos are generating the most points per game in the NFL. Call the other coaches and tell them Beadles is a weak link. Maybe you all don't think the other coaches watch any film of their opponents. Maybe they're idiots and can't see Beadles is the weak link. Maybe they're just too stupid to come up with a plan to exploit his weaknesses. Because so far THEY HAVEN'T. Did PFF mention that?
Manning is going to get sacked a few times a year. Live with it. If he's too fragile to take getting sacked once or so a game, then he shouldn't be in the NFL because it's going to happen--and every OL guy will get credited with 2 to 3 of those sacks on average. Are they all weak links?
I almost forgot my most favorite comment "FormerUmp is kinda telling. This is football, not baseball." Yeah, that one was interesting. Okay, so I saw it with my own eyes--I guess I just didn't understand it!
