WEEK 5 RESULTS
What a weekend of games, but none bigger than the 99 point free for all in Dallas - a game that exposed a banged up Denver defense. With our two best defensive backs (Champ & Harris) sitting on the sidelines, almost any quarterback in the NFL could have had a field day, & Tony Romo did just that.
Then Robert Ayers & our other defensive captain/play caller MLB Wesley Woodyard gets knocked out of the game & it looked like Dallas could not be stopped. Fortunately we got just what we needed to end the game in our favor.
The Broncos offense is so good that the NY Giants, who are worst in the league in the points per game (PPG) against category (36.4), would be having a winning season. That doesn't say much for our defense boys & girls!
However, there are only four teams in the NFL who are averaging more points per game than the Broncos are giving up. They are the Dallas Cowboys (30.4), Green Bay Packers (29.5), Chicago Bears (29), & the Minnesota Vikings (28.8).
The fact that we just got done playing the Cowboys, who top that list, should tell us something about the rest of the schedule this year. Indiana has surprised me, and looks like a very good test in two weeks.
They are the most well rounded team we will have faced all year, ranking 4th, 5th, or 6th in each of the 4 categories I track. Their Offense is averaging exactly what our Defense is giving up, 27.8 points per game, with their defense allowing just 15.8 points per game.
Two out of the three remaining teams we face before the Bye Week rank very poor on defense, although Washington is only allowing 2 tenths of a point per game more than the Broncos defense gives up.
After the bye, the KC, New England, KC & Tennessee stretch is where we will prove our metal as an Offense. KC (#1) & New England (#2) are allowing the fewest PPG in the league on defense. That will be 4 top ten teams in a row (in that category) with Tennessee coming to town the following week.
Here is how the remaining teams on our schedule are looking at the moment.

Take Away Give Away Differential is my "Just Fix This" stat:
There are 15 teams with an even or negative TA/GA Differential and just 5 (33%) have a winning record.
There are 17 teams with a positive TA/GA Differential and just 6 (35%) have a losing record. All six of those teams with a losing record have a better TA/GA than Denver does. The fumbles have to stop, & Denver's D needs to start creating turnovers.

This week Indianapolis took over the top spot in the combined rankings with a well rounded team playing at a high level all across the board.
San Fransisco rose 15 spots to gain a foothold in the top ten list, and Houston managed to drop down into the bottom 5 list. Our friend Gary Kubiac may be looking for a job if he doesn't turn these guys around.

·Bye: Atlanta, Miami
Well, that's all I have for you this week. I personally can't wait to see this team complete (no injuries & Von back), for at least one game this year, just to see the kind of Defense we are truly capable of playing.
What in the NFL has surprised you the most so far this year?
