Welker out is no surprise. He is facing his 2nd concussion in just three weeks. Many have speculated that it may be best for the Broncos to shut him down for the rest of the regular season and save him for the playoffs. Some have even speculated that it might be best for him to step away from the game having experience many concussions during the course of his career.
The Broncos are not likely to change strategy much if at all. Jacob Tamme is more than capable of stepping into the slot receiver role just like he did last week.
News of Champ Bailey being out is much more troubling. After making his 2nd debut against the Chiefs at arrowhead and playing 30/70 defensive snaps, he has yet to play another snap the past two games.
Bottom line, this defense is a mess. Our secondary is no better than a loaf of swiss cheese. Wesley Woodyard is seemingly being punished by Del Rio for his injury, and we have allowed 34, 28, and 28 points in three consecutive games.
Del Rio may have stepped up while Fox was gone but he has been disappointing since Von Miller returned. It isn't just the injuries which everyone has to deal with, it is the constant shuffling and lack of adjustments that have caused points.
If you don't believe me, go back and review last game and try to justify why a guy like Omar Bolden deserves to play 42 snaps at safety. I'll save you the time--he's the worst player in our defensive secondary by far. While you're at it try to explain to me why our best cover corner DRC only gets 27 snaps.
All of these hair-brained combinations have done nothing more than create chaos on the backend of our defense. No wonder why the Broncos have given up so many big plays down the field lately.
Hopefully Del Rio gets things figured out soon (tomorrow) because San Diego actually has a quarterback and an offense that can make us pay for our inconsistencies.
GO BRONCOS!!!
