Hey there Mile High Report, how are you guys all doing?
Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Joe Miller, and I'm a casual commentator at Fieldgulls. I started following football in 2004, so my knowledge of the Seahawks' place in the AFC West is fairly limited. The only thing that seems to come up whenever the veterans on the site talk about the "the old days" is that Elway had a knack of demolishing the Hawks' and that Steve Largent hit Mike Harden really hard in one game.
That aside, I currently go to college in the Denver metropolitan area and I am working on my History Capstone. For the subject I chose, I decided to take a deeper look into the fan culture of the Denver Broncos. Being the outsider looking in, the one thing I have noticed is that Bronco fans are a resilient group. They take a great deal of pride in their team regardless of circumstances. For example, last fall I sat in on a keynote speech about General Felix Sparks, only for the speech to end with the speaker saying, "Go Broncos."
For an outsider like me, where our sports culture is nowhere near as deep (and until fairly recently was almost lifeless), this is a marvel that I want to explore further. Overall, my research is focusing on the history of the Broncos organization, which will include its formation, Super Bowl appearances, Hall of Fame players, and famous games among other topics. The other element to this research is the Broncos impact on the fan base, and that is where I was hoping if it was possible that you could help me.
You know this organization way better than I do. As fans you have gone through both the triumphs and the hardships and that has helped shaped your identity as a fan base. What I'm asking is if you would be willing to offer you own opinions about the Broncos as team, an organization, or even beyond that. Feel free to cite specific moments if you so wish. My intention is to use this experiment as a means to help shape my perspective of the information I am researching. Thank you so much for hearing me out, and I wish you guys luck in the 2013 season.
