Denver Broncos Offseason: Should John Elway Be On The Phone With Charles Woodson?

Jamie Squire

Free Agency kicks off in weeks but there is one name that ist away that may have some intrigue to the Broncos.

After every NFL season, teams have to make roster adjustments to their rosters to stay within the salary cap rules. This year it is tougher than ever with the cap staying about the same and contract values continue to inflate.

Over the past few days, some interesting news cane across the wire.

The Green Bay Packers released 2009 NFL Defensive Player of the Year Charles Woodson. Woodson, 36, is near the end of his career but since being drafted fourth overall in 1998 by Oakland, has always been one of the top corners in the NFL.

When the Revis trade rumors started to arise, fans, as we do, started to wonder if Revis should be a target for the Broncos. As much as the team would love to have him, the cost would be draft picks, players, and a lot of $$$$. The Broncos right now have a championship window. I am not saying when Manning is gone they will not be competitive , but the championship window is with this team as long as they have Peyton Manning under center.

Woodson could be a missing piece for the team. Woodson, like all players, is not as quick as he used to be. No one beats father time. However, he still has the ability to cover well and depending on the price, could be a solid option to help with a major problem for the Broncos last season, covering the tight end. With Champ Bailey still being the top guy and Chris Harris a rising star, Woodson would join a strong cornerback group. Woodson is still an effective corner and would be at a cheaper price than Revis. Woodson also has the ability to play safety, as he showed last year in a game for Green Bay.

What do you think? Should the Broncos go after Woodson?
