John Elway and the Denver Broncos have pulled off another big move. The Broncos have agreed to terms with free agent receiver Wes Welker, formerly of the New England Patriots.
The reports that free agent Wes Welker was on the verge of departing the New England Patriots for the Denver Broncos were accurate. John Elway confirmed on Twitter: Wes Welker is a Bronco.
Agreed to terms on a 2-yr deal with Wes Welker. Excited to have Wes join the Broncos. His production & toughness will be a great asset!— John Elway (@johnelway) March 13, 2013
Wes Welker lands a two-year, $12 million deal from the Broncos. Demaryius Thomas, Eric Decker, Wes Welker. Have fun, Peyton.— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) March 13, 2013
Bold move by the Broncos.
Welker's career took off when he was traded to the Patriots before the 2007 season. In his first season 112 passes for 1,175 yards and eight touchdowns but that was just the beginning as he would go on to amass at least 111 catches in five of his next six seasons in New England. He has been among the most productive receivers in the NFL over the last half decade. Now he goes from Tom Brady to one of the very few quarterbacks whose career accomplishments can compare to his -- Peyton Manning.
Welker to Broncos is a scary proposition for everyone except the Broncos. Maybe that shakes something loose for the Patriots.— Rich Eisen (@richeisen) March 13, 2013
if Broncos go into next season with Welker, Thomas, and Decker.. give them a stout RB, and they're a scary, SCARY team.— The Draft Insider™ (@DraftInsider) March 13, 2013
On the Broncos' cap situation ... Outside of Elvis Dumervil, only 3 players have an APY above $6M on the roster: Manning, Clady and Bailey.— Albert Breer (@AlbertBreer) March 13, 2013
Between his ability and his personality, I can't think of a better place for Welker than Denver. That's such a good fit for so many reasons.— Jeff Darlington (@JeffDarlington) March 13, 2013
