Hello everyone! My name is Billy Brost and I recently just signed up for the Mile High Report. I am highly excited not only to be reading everyone's great content through the site, but to be able to add my two cents as well. A little about me...I have been a Broncos fan since Elway became the quarterback. The first bet I ever made was on the Broncos/Redskins Super Bowl, which turned out badly for me, which by the way, I was 11 years old!
My greatest disappointment as a Broncos' fan was watching Jacksonville come into Mile High and upset what should've been the first of the three-peat Super Bowl run. I was in the Army at the time, stationed down the road at Fort Carson, CO. I was so upset over the loss, I took a week of leave, and didn't leave my home. Shades drawn, fridge stocked with beer. I think I lived on beer and homemade nachos for a week solid.
That led to my greatest memories: the back-to-back Super Bowl runs. I knew that either one of these games could be Elway's last, and I wasn't going to miss them for the world. So to San Diego I went to watch the upset of a lifetime, and then on to Tampa the following year to watch Elway's masterpiece.
It has been tough since he retired, and this past season brought back memories of the Jacksonville game. I told my wife just before the half, the story of my Jacksonville depression fit. Of course the game played out the way it did, and I was sick all over. I was irritated, irrational, and angry. To watch Baltimore win that Super Bowl was as disgusting to me as it was watching Green Bay whip up on New England a decade and a half ago. In the back of my mind, I am thinking, "Denver will make the moves to take the next step. We are playing on limited time with Peyton." Hopefully I am right. I am willing to live with another decade of mediocrity if it means winning another back-to-back set of Super Bowls. It's amazing how willing we are to sell our souls for just one more taste of glory. It's been far too long in Denver-still and always will be a football-first city.
Thanks again for welcoming me into your community, and I hope we can get to know one another and enjoy what should be a pretty magical run over the next couple of seasons!
