As many of my illustrious Broncos buddies have rightfully deducted, our NFL Pro Day reports are drawing to a close. At this point, I strongly exhort passionate draftniks to watch any pre draft programs involving Mike Mayock as he is a genius of all geniuses as is his daughter, Leigh, guess it runs in the family.
Anyway, today's report has the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers of the I-AA Big South Conference as the star, primarily because there were Broncos brass in attendance at the Conway, S.C.-based campus.
Perhaps the best CCU prospect to join the likes of our old nemesis Mike Tolbert and Tyler Thigpen in the NFL from this institution is tailback Eric O'Neal who ran a 4.53-40-yard dash, posted a 36'0-vertical jump and amassed an 8-10 broad jump.
Since I believe in the I-AA playoffs more than the BC$ bowl season, I do know of O'Neal's talents as in this past I-AA postseason, O'Neal had some explosive runs and seemed to finish with power every time he ran.
Additionally, defensive back Dontavais Johnson ran a 4.57-40 posted a 35'0-vertical and finished with a 9.65-broad jump.
Of course, since I am a Utahn, I knew what was going on at the Brigham Young Pro Day at Provo, but regrettably my fellow Utah media Tweeters, such as Jay Drew of The Salt Lake Tribune, only gleaned limited information.
However, it's obvious Ezekiel "Ziggy" Ansah is the one everyone is most interested in and thankfully, the USA Today's NFL Twitter feed was all over his exploits.
The Ghanaian national, who has only lived in U.S. America since the age of 18, performed only in positional drills but 18 NFL scouts were on hand, including defensive line staff representatives from the Oakland Raiders, Philadelphia Eagles and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Unanimously, the consensus was he performed highly and many of my colleagues, such as Jenna Laine of The Sassy Side of Sports, believe Ansah can be a Top 15 draft selection.
The gridiron football neophyte's prodigious gifts are being rewarded by McGeorge's @favorite person@ Roger Goodell, (who you can follow on Twitter at @nflcommish) as he has been invited to attend the NFL Draft next month at Radio City Music Hall.
I did my best to glean information from Sam Houston State, Central Arkansas, East Carolina, Louisiana-Lafayette and Yale, but none of their Twitter feeds nor Web sites had any information to share. Hopefully, this suffices for now, thanks and GO BRONCOS!!!
