Sylvester Williams a Surprising first round pick

The Broncos selected DT Sylvester Williams from North Carolina in the first round of the 2013 draft.

Many draft experts were looking more at Damontre Moore DE from Texas A&M or Tank Carradine DE from Florida State as a replacement for Dumervil, and Werner who was already drafted.

There were also two highly rated ILB on the board in Alec Ogletree and Manti Te'o still on the board. Moreover, top RB Eddie Lacy from Alabama was also on the board, so Williams selection was questionable, and perplexing.

Williams selection is somewhat similar to the Dolphins choice of Dion Jordan. Williams probably makes some sense on run defense, and was probably well liked by Defensive Coordinator Jack Del Rio.

The Broncos may also be looking at going back to Dwight Freeney at DE after the draft.

It really remains to be seen if Williams is an impact player, and I will wait to see some results in preseason.
