Broncos sign ex-Chargers DB Quentin Jammer

It's been a busy offseason for the Denver Broncos. A busy offseason that doesn't seem to stop.

A busy offseason that doesn't seem to stop acquiring former San Diego Chargers players.

Free agent defensive back Quentin Jammer has signed with the Denver Broncos, the team announced.

Jammer, 33, has spent all of his previous 11 seasons with the San Diego Chargers. There, he saw action in 172 games, starting in 161 (missing only three starts in the last 10 years -- best in the NFL).

The 6-0, 204-pound cornerback was never considered a playmaker for San Diego, but rather a durable corner who wasn't afraid to get physical when a downfield tackle was needed. Jammer has totaled 727 tackles (613 solo), 21 interceptions (210 yds), 130 passes defensed, seven forced fumbles, and seven fumble recoveries in his career, according to the Broncos.

That being said, Jammer still broke into the highlight reels in 2012 when he intercepted a Peyton Manning throw and returned it for a touchdown during the Chargers' Week Six bout with the Broncos.

(Or maybe it was Manning's shoddy tackling that broke into the highlight reels, we're not sure.)

Jammer is the second free agent cornerback the Broncos have signed this offseason after the team added CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie in March. The addition of Jammer brings the total of former Chargers to sign with the Broncos this offseason to three, as Jammer reunites with former teammates guard Louis Vasquez and linebacker Shaun Phillips.

Jammer doesn't quite bring the pedigree of a Charles Woodson, but he could fill that some role many fans envisioned Woodson would fill -- a strong safety who can cover a tight end and make a tackle when needed.
