Denver Broncos 2013 Minicamp starts Tuesday: What to expect

USA TODAY Sports

Denver Broncos 2013 minicamp starts Tuesday, June 11th, at 10:35 a.m. and runs each day through Thursday June 13th. Here's everything you need to know.

Minicamp workouts are mandatory

All players under contract by the Denver Broncos are required to participate in minicamp at Dove Valley. This means Ryan Clady, who still has yet to sign his franchise tender, is not required to show up, but Willis McGahee, who skipped voluntary OTAs, is. Unsigned rookies are not required, but are compensated for showing up, and as is the common practice with "voluntary" workouts in the NFL - ya better show up, rooks.

Practices are like OTAs: closed to the public, non-contact

Like Organized Team Activities, minicamp practices are closed to the public, but open to the media. The first 20-30 minutes are open for photography and video. Players will wear helmets and jerseys, and while individual and team drills are allowed, contact drills are not.

Broncos can do two-a-days

The NFL Collective Bargaining Agreement dictates that teams may hold two-a-day practices during mandatory minicamp, but the Broncos have not said whether they are. If they are, the second session is not open to the media, and it would be less exciting anyway. Reads the CBA (page 138):

"Two-a-day practices shall be permitted at two of the three practice days of the Club’s one mandatory minicamp, subject to the following rules: (i) players may be on the field for a total of no more than three and one-half hours per day; (ii) players may participate in one practice for no more than two and one-half hours of on-field activities under Phase Three rules; (iii) the second practice may only be for the remaining portion of the players’ daily three and one-half hour on-field activities and shall be limited to walk-through instruction only; (iv) no organized team activities (including treatment and taping) may begin prior to 7:00am local time or end after 8:30pm local time, and players shall be given at least one hour for lunch and dinner each; (v) players may only be asked to participate in Club activities for a maximum of ten hours per day including taping and treatment but excluding meal time. The on-field time limits described above shall begin as soon as position coaches begin to coach players on the field.

So if they are doing two-a-days, the second session would be instructional walk-through for an hour. Not a lot to see there anyway.

Minicamp is the last chance to see our Broncos on the practice field until training camp in late July. Hopefully they stay out of trouble, enjoy their time off, and stay in top shape. What are you hoping to see during minicamp?
