The Key to the Season

Huge missing link to the running game no matter who plays.

There are questions on our O-line that common sense says we should be concerned about. Three starters coming back from injuries, none of which have participated in off-season work. Add Vasquez as a new starter and Beadles is the only starter currently participating. Clady appears to be healing nicely and about to sign his contract so that problem seems to be or will be solved. Vasquez could end up being an upgrade over Kuper but the jury is still out and he still has to acclimate to his new team/line mates. Kuper was?/is no slouch but he seemed to be THE stabilizing player on the line. I think there is considerable doubt as to him even playing this year. The biggest question is the center position. Even if Walton comes back healthy I’ve read more than once that he was questionable against the bigger D fronts. This is something I noticed several times over the season..defensive push up the middle.

OTA’s and mini-camp work show Man Ram getting the work at center. This is an intriguing position shift due to his being 6’ 3" 313 lbs but at age 30 it seems a little late to the party. Blake Phillips at 6’ 3" 320 lbs evidently was showing well in camp (per Elway) but at 27 and 1 year of pro experience also casts a little doubt. C. J. Davis at 6’ 2" 308 age 26 and 3 relatively undistinguished years in the league doesn’t conjure images of elite potential. I certainly see the potential for our O-line to be a dominant force but this is probably the biggest area of concern for this observer.

Rameriz and Blake will be closely watched as who starts at center may be the key to our season.
