CO Springs Gazette states Willis released due to health

If you think about the timing, it's perhaps the only thing that makes sense (as Retro-Grouch at DP initially theorized). You could argue it was a "conscious effort to get younger" as Fox said, and they wanted to give all the attention & snaps to the young bucks, but still, not keeping Willis through training camp as insurance at least doesn't make a lot of sense.

I know not everyone agrees on the logic of this, so this isn't a debate of "should we have" released Willis. Just an potential observation on "why we did." Some of you probably already saw this link feed from Bleacher Report but this is the first time I saw this quoted (ProFootballTalk is now quoting the Gazette as well).

Paul Klee at the Gazette says here:

Why was McGahee cut loose?

Foremost, he's not healthy. I have it on good authority that's what the Broncos believe. It's why McGahee was afforded only limited carries in the mandatory minicamp. It's the No. 1 reason he's on the job market for a new gig.

I believe John Fox when he says McGahee's decision to play hooky from their voluntary OTAs was not the motivation behind cutting the running back from the team in June.

"That has nothing to do with it," Fox said.
