Denver Broncos Countdown to Kickoff: 52 Days

Mark J. Rebilas-US PRESSWIRE

Wesley Woodyard became the 12th NFL player in the last 30 years to record 100 tackles, 5 sacks, and 3 INT's in the same season.

Just a few years ago, Woodyard was making his bones as a special teams player. There's something to be said about the randomness of the NFL and how some players take the bull by the horns as they carve their way into the history books. In his first full year as a starter, Woodyard showed what kind of potential he has as a playmaker.

What intrigues me most about Woodyard is his breakout performance sets precedence. Which Broncos special teams players are set to make a larger impact in 2013?

Could it be Trindon Holliday, the homerun threat who can be used more frequently as a receiver out of the backfield?

Perhaps Nate Irving or Steven Johnson can step up into the Mike LB spot and make us forget the woes of Joe Mays and Keith Brooking.

How about Omar Boldin? Is he set up to challenge incumbent Tony Carter for that 4th CB role?

Is David Bruton the matchup safety Broncos fans have been screaming for as of late? Maybe he can push Adams or Moore for one of the starting spots at safety.

One of the most understated ways special teams affects the club as a whole is it allows time for players to develop. Players who need time to refine their skills and the proper coaching to enhance their strengths and point out their weaknesses can bide their time while impacting the 3rd and most undervalued phase of the game.

People forget that long before Terrell Davis lit up defenses with MVP performances, 100 yard games, and 2000 yard seasons, he had to make the team first and get noticed. For veterans removed from their rookie season, Special Teams gives them an opportunity to leapfrog into bigger and better things. For no name UDFA's if gives them a chance to make the team.

Which UDFA rookies and which ST veterans are you looking to make the team or make a bigger impact this year MHR?
