Hello folks! Mdierk here after a long, long offseason of lurking, injuries and new beginnings. In case you don’t know who I am, I was one of the early "Horse Tracks" writers and part of the early MHR staff. After my son arrived in 2009, I was sent to become the "Quality Coach" and became the "crazy uncle that nobody talked about" of the staff. Ask Tim Lynch and he will attest to it. Now I’m just one of the regular folks who reads MHR (with the exception of the 2012 offseason and season). After the "regime change" I felt it was time to get back into the fray again and make some comments in the threads. I think this is the first time I have posted any Fanpost in almost about 18 months. After reading this, you may not want to read me again for a long time.
After some thought, the best thing I can call the upcoming season is "Unfinished Business". We all sat in the stands or at home in front of the TV in total shock and disgust as the Ravens snuffed out the Super Bowl dreams of all of us Bronco fans. It was so painful for me that I didn’t wear my gear until this month. I didn’t even watch much of the Super Bowl in favor of a Disney movie with the kids. The choices between rooting for the 49ers try to get a sixth trophy in the case or Ray Lewis and Co. heading off into the sunset with another ring at the expense of the Broncos was a sickening one.
New Beginnings - Denver addressed a lot of needs in the player department with adding Wes Welker, drafting a first round DT and some more vets that want a shot at a ring. While the loss of Elvis hurts, the good thing is Ryan Clady is under contract for a long time protecting Manning’s blind side. Unfortunately, the recent DUI arrests of two of the front office folks put a damper on the otherwise quiet offseason. I live in New Mexico and there is a huge DWI problem here. Many people are injured or killed because of this. Even with all the PSAs that tell you to not do it, it seems to be falling on deaf ears. Please call a cab, get a designated driver or stay home. Why ruin your life over something this preventable? Russell and Heckert are lucky they are still employed (Russell’s fate may prove otherwise). I know that where I work, I would be immediately fired. An unpaid suspension is getting off easy.
Revenge and Vindication - Now for the reason I write today. Isn’t it fitting that the Ravens have to open in front of the nation in Denver? For me, I have been waiting for this game since the schedule came out. As far as I’m concerned, I would want nothing more than an absolute blowout. While there is no title at stake, it would make the entire fan base feel much better. I’d love to see Flacco sacked multiple times, Elvis and Suggs stopped cold by our O-line and either Champ or Rahim take a pick back for a touchdown. I would expect Sports Authority Field at Mile High to be raucous that night. I will try to not scare my newborn daughter with my cheering at home. Having a win to kick off the season will set a much-needed tempo in the season-long march to New York.
That's all I have to say at the moment. I'm getting amped for the season and the quest for the Super Bowl. GO Broncos!!!
