2013 NFL Playoffs: Indianapolis Colts vs. Kansas City Chiefs - What does this game mean for the Broncos?

John Rieger-USA TODAY Sports

What playoff implications does this game have for deciding the Broncos Divisional opponent?

The short answer is nothing immediate. As the #1 seed in the AFC, the Broncos will face the lowest remaining seed after the Wild Card round has concluded. The Colts are the #4 seed while the Chiefs are the #5 seed. The lowest seed in the playoffs are the San Diego Chargers at #6.

That being said here is what we would know after tonight.

IF the Chiefs win:

Only a Charger win tomorrow would keep a third meeting from happening between the Broncos and Chiefs in the Divisional Round. If the Chiefs won today and the Chargers won tomorrow, we would play the Chargers. If the Chiefs won today and the Bengals won tomorrow, we would play the Chiefs.

IF the Colts win:

If the Colts win today, and the Bengals win tomorrow, we would play the Colts in the Divisional Round. If the Colts win today, and the Chargers win tomorrow, we would play the Chargers in the Divisional Round.

Does that clarify things a bit Broncos Country? If you're weary of facing the Chiefs three times in a season you should be rooting for the Colts today. If you want the Broncos to face either AFC West foe again this season, you should be rooting for the Chiefs.

Or you could just do what I do and laugh and point whenever either team has the ball. I kid I kid.

But Bronco Mike, I'm a Pats fan, how do I figure out their next opponent?

First of all, shame on you for being a lowly Pats fan. I'm confident in saying that your presence in our society has brought down the collective intelligence of our nation by at least five points. I kid I kid, don't get your uggs into a tizzy. Wicked Pissah!

If the Colts win:

If the Colts win today, and the Bengals win tomorrow, the Patriots will be playing the Bengals next week. Remember Hoodie and company will face off against the highest remaining seed (Cincy is #3).

If the Colts win today, and the Chargers win tomorrow, they would be facing the Colts.

If the Chiefs win today, and the Chargers win tomorrow, the Patriots would be facing the Chiefs.

If the Chiefs win today, and the Bengals win tomorrow, they would be facing the Bengals.

The Cliff Notes version

- Broncos face lowest remaining seed.

- Patriots face highest remaining seed.

The Games

(5) Chiefs @ (4) Colts

(6) Chargers @ (3) Bengals
