Ask A Chiefs Fan - Please Go Easy On Us Edition

Wow! What a game, Denver fans! So, like most Chiefs fans there I was, wishing and hoping and praying for a Broncos loss to the Dolphins, checking the score and thinking to myself "hey, this could happen!" until ... Peyton Manning showed one more time why he really IS the GoaT at QB (to be honest, that's "Modern Era" because to me there's just something about Johnny Unitas that made him head and shoulders above everyone else of his time, and since ... he was more than JUST a QB: he was the consummate athlete of his day and age)

Anyway, where was I? Oh yeah, right! Manning (damn you, Peyton!) did it again ... I mean, seriously, how are the poor Chiefs supposed to compete with THAT? not to mention a running game that just blew my head off (to say nothing of some Miami heads, right?) ... are we even allowed to be on the same field? Look, go ahead and give us all we can take and then some about losing to the (previously) winless Raiders: we deserve it ... and while you're at it, jump all over us for that whatever it was opening game against the Titans (at home, no less!) because it was brutal, really it was (losing itself wasn't the worst part, of course ... it was the season-ending injuries to Derrick Johnson and Mike DeVito that did more damage than a simple loss) and that was on top of losing Catapano for the season to a non-football related injury/illness ...

... fast forward to early this week and the news that Eric Berry may have lymphoma and you can understand why some KC heads are reeling (some things are just more important that mere football, hard as that may be to believe for some)

So, good things about the Chiefs this season ... a few, absolutely: TE Travis Kelce for one ... the guy is a certified beast, and when he grabs a pass and has more than a couple of feet to move, he's a threat to break one for a long gain or TD (he also blocks in the open field as well as any TE around)... there's Jamaal Charles, of course, always a threat to break a long run ... QB Alex Smith simply doesn't turn the ball over, and that in itself has to be a good thing, right? Dwayne Bowe just catches whatever's thrown his way (especially if he's double and triple covered, and he's the only true WR we have) ... Knile Davis is a very solid RB and of course FB Anthony Sherman is just world class good at his position ... LT Eric Fisher has improved leaps and bounds since his oft-troubled rookie season last year, 6th Round rookie pick Zach Fulton is going to be a fixture for a long, long time (barring injury) and C Rodney Hudson might be one of (former GM) Scott Pioli's best parting gifts to the Chiefs

... oh, did I mention we have some guy at LB named Justin Houston who's about to become a MegaMillionaire, and maybe the best NT in the business in Dontari Poe? After that things are ... well, a lot of guys you've maybe never heard of (and a lot of guys even I've never heard of, but hey ... whatever, right?)

Look, we know this is going to be one of the toughest games the Chiefs will play all year ... some fans think it's sort of like "our Super Bowl" or whatever ... a few think it's simply unrealistic to think about winning (because Manning) but then ...

... so yeah, Any Given Sunday as usual, so there's hope for the Chiefs after all ... they just have to be as good as the Seahawks ... or the Rams (who beat the Niners, which is more than the Chiefs did) and I think the Chiefs are at least as good as the Saints (who beat the Pack, and that's saying something right there, because the Saints have looked horrible this season) ... the Chiefs did indeed dismantle the Pats and survive the Bills on the road and overcome the Seahawks at home, but yeah, that Raiders game (sigh)

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh ... who's kidding who? look, this is going to be one tough game ... and if the Chiefs start trying to do "too much" to make up for the loss of Berry it could end up being a very, very long day at Arrowhead Corral ... here's to a good game and an injury-free game, and may the team that scores the most points win!

oh, before I forget! my (now) annual gift to Tim Lynch ...
