Report: Broncos interested in free agent safety Louis Delmas

Tim Fuller-USA TODAY Sports

The Broncos are rumored to be setting up their first free agent visit of the 2014 offseason.

According to CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora, the Broncos are interested in recently released safety Louis Delmas. Delmas, 26, was released by the Detroit Lions last week, along with veteran wide receiver Nate Burelson.

Delmas, who was drafted in the second round (33rd overall) in the 2009 NFL Draft, was named a Pro Bowl alternate in 2010 and 2011 and tallied 239 tackles, five sacks, six interceptions and four fumble recoveries. Delmas played all 16 games last season for the Detroit Lions for the first time in his career. Delmas totaled 64 tackles, 2 sacks and 3 interceptions for the Lions last season. He ranked 26th at his position in 2013 according to Pro Football Focus.

Delmas does have some injury concerns. According to the Detroit Free Press, Delmas has a degenerative knee condition that limited him to one day of practice most weeks and impacted his performance in games. This condition lead to some teams to remove Delmas from their draft board during the draft. However Delmas nearly played 100% of the Lions snaps in 2013.

If signed, Delmas would look to replace veteran Mike Adams in the starting roster. It is interesting to see what this means for Rahim Moore. Moore has been diagnosed with lateral compartment syndrome, and has yet to be cleared to practice. Either way the Broncos need an upgrade at the Safety position, and Delmas would be an upgrade for the Broncos.
