I have just watched an interview with Michael Sam on ESPN's web site.
That is an impressive young man. Very intelligent very well spoken, he
obviously has it together. He suffered through great tragedy in his life.
One brother was murdered and another disappeared and is presumed
murdered. He said coming out of the closet is nothing, taking verbal
abuse is nothing compared to that. He openly dated while in college.
Pro scouts all know about his sexuality. He was going to be asked about
it in his interviews with NFL teams anyway.
Coming out was the right decision.
I will be rooting for him, if the Broncos draft him I'll be excited for him
and for them. We never know what kind of career a young player is
going to have and that is really beside the point. There are always
surprises. Expectation were low for Dumerville and Trevathan
and Woodyard too.
I have said I am a Christian I am also a bible believer. I will not reject
my faith in any way. You may wonder how can I say that I accept and
admire Michael Sam. So I ask you, how is it any different than Atheists
(one of my sisters) or Agnostics or lapsed Catholics (my other sister)
or people I love from other religions Judaism, Mormonism, Jehovah
Witnesses. I don't embrace their beliefs and they don't embrace mine
but we live in a pluralistic society. I don't want someone to be intolerant
of me for being a Christian and so I won't be intolerant of others.
People reject a son or daughter when they come out and yet they have
friends and family that in many ways have a theology or life style that
is just as opposed to their own as homosexuality. And they don't worry
about it at all. That's not Christianity that is Victorianism an invention
of man's not of God's something completely different.
