I’m somewhat surprised at my calm. It may be age, it may be experience, it may be thankfulness for the great number of things that I have in my life that make the sting of the moment so temporary. It may be that I woke up with the stomach flu today, one of my favorite actors died way too young and my favorite team got absolutely humiliated on the biggest stage. Maybe it's all so much it's tragically comic.
But I’m here to say this: one of the things I’m very, very proud and happy to be is a Bronco fan. I’m so thankful for this year. I had so much fun watching this team through the highs and lows – with way, way more highs. I am thrilled that I got to expose my wife and kids to Broncos greatness. I’m a fan for the long haul. This was the best it’s been in two decades. Whether or not it gets better next year or the manner to fix it is a conversation for another day.
I’m thankful for now. This game was a perfect storm. That’s taking nothing away from the Seahawks as they created much of that storm. They were the better team in more ways than I can count right now. I couldn’t and really, still can’t, believe the first offensive play of the game going for a safety. The last game I saw like this where the wheels just came off in every direction was the beat down suffered at the hands of the dreaded Raiders circa Josh McD.
My final checklist for this game today had this: the ball bounces in funny ways. The team needs to be okay with that and keep moving. They didn’t. They weren’t. They looked scared and entirely overmatched. There’s not much more to say than that.
I will say this: whatever nonsense talk about PFM that will come out over the next long eight months, I love that man and am so grateful he’s our guy. I pray all goes well in his physical, he has a nice break, then he and Elway sit down and talk about how to get this awful taste out of their mouths. It can be done. The pieces are in place. I have faith.
And I love the Denver Broncos more than ever right now. See you around MHR, Bronco fans. Thanks for the friendship and the ride.
