A Look Back - The Broncos 2011 NFL Draft

This was Elways first draft.

In 2010 the Broncos were 4 and 12. Josh Mc D- (Mc Daniels) was fired. Coach Eric Studesville finished the last few games of that awful season. It's good Studesville is still a Bronco coach. John Elway was hired. Carolina Panthers drafted first with a record of (2-14). The Broncos, Bills and Bengals were tied for second with 4-12 records. We drafted immediately behind the Panthers. John Elway chose Von Miller with the 2nd overall pick of the draft. In the second round Elway traded our number two pick to San Francisco for their 45th pic, 108th pic and 141st pick. With our pick the 49er's selected Quarterback Colin Kaepernick, their starting quarterback... With the 45th pick we selected Safety Raheem Moore, with the 108th selection we selected Safety Quinton Carter. Elway traded up in the draft giving Green Bay the 141st and the 186th selection. With the 129 pick we took Tight End Julius Thomas. With the 202nd pick Elway selected Tight End Virgil Green. Green Bay took Arkansas Tight End D.J. Williams. He is basically a bust. Elway scored big again.

Colin Kaepernick for Safety Raheem Moore, Safety Quinton Carter. Tight End Julius Thomas. Three years later the 49ers got 1 great staters and we got 2 really good starters and a descent backup. Both teams benefited greatly from the trade. The 49er's needed a future quarterback. The 4-12 Broncos were so broken we needed players to fill in all the gaps.

The 46th pick was the second of two second round picks former head coach Josh Mc D- (Daniels) made in turn for Tight End Brandon Marshall. Elway selected starting Offensive Tackle Orlando Franklin. Wow! What a trade! In the 3rd round we selected Linebacker Nate Irving. Nate is a bit of a disappointment so far...

In the 4th round Elway traded the 99th selection to New England for the 189th pick and running back Laurence Maroney. He was a bust! He was not resigned. With the 189th pick Elway took Linebacker Mike Mohammed. Elway took a gamble for a starting running back. It was a complete bust.

With the 247th pick Elway took Linebacker Jermy Beal who turned out to be a bust. However through all of this the Broncos picked up a core of players that helped to form the present foundation we enjoy.

Grade Elway and staff. How do you think they performed?
