Name: Jon Heath
MHR/BroncoTalk Staffer since: June 2010 (BT) and August 2013 (MHR)
My name is Jon Heath and I am a Broncos addict. Hi, Jon!
Most of you are probably familiar with me by now, but after officially welcoming Jacob and Laurie to MHR this week, Kyle realized I was never formally introduced on the site and asked for my bio. So, here we go!
My family lived in Colorado during the late 1980s (before I was born) and early 1990s when John Elway was doing John Elway things. Naturally, the fam fell in love with the Denver Broncos and continued pulling for them even after they moved to Pennsylvania (where we currently still live) in the late 1990s. By the time I was in my preteen years I had been indoctrinated in Broncos fandom by way of old VHS tapes of Denver's 1997 and 1998 seasons, but at that time I was more of a fan of the team's history than of the current unit.
It wasn't until around the 2003 and 2004 seasons that I started ardently following the team. I became John Lynch's biggest fan-I wore No. 47 in sports growing up because of him-and I played defensive back (and wide receiver) in high school due in part to Lynch's influence on my football fandom.
A few years later I stumbled across a blog called BroncoTalk.net and was instantly hooked. I visited it daily for my Broncos fix and was ultimately inspired to create my own spin-off blog, Broncos Zone. After I spent a few years of writing stories on my own blog, Kyle invited me to join BT's staff as a writer.
My blogging endeavors were rocket-launched after joining BT and I went on to spend time writing for several other sites-including Bronco Planet, Bronco Madness, and Bleacher Report-from 2010 to 2012. I was under contract with B/R when BT merged with MHR in 2013 and wasn't able to officially make the jump until a few months later, but I'm here to stay now.
I am 20 years old and attending college in Pensacola, Florida. I hope to one day work for a professional sports team's media department or write as a sports journalist for a newspaper or similar news outlet. To gain more experience, I have interned with companies including The Patriot-News covering minor league football and the Pensacola Ice Flyers helping with game day operations in a professional hockey league. In addition to writing, I am also somewhat of a social media geek.
I am currently MHR's social media manager (I held the same position at BT) and I have helped companies including Old Spice, Papa John's Pizza, and Verizon Wireless with social media campaigns in the past. You can follow me on Twitter (you know you want to) by hitting up @JonHeathNFL.
When not in school, I cater and lifeguard during the summer and occasionally post to my personal blog. I use my vacation time from lifeguarding to travel to Colorado to cover training camp and spend the rest of my free time with my incredibly awesome family (they all bleed orange and blue).
I have been extremely blessed over the past few years and am looking forward to many years to come working with the fine staff in place at MHR.
Favorite post: I wrote many articles that I was extremely proud of before coming here. As far as MHR stories go, though, I enjoyed writing this story on Denver's offseason from the perspectives of NFL agents, and I liked the way my story on then-rookie quarterback Ryan Katz turned out last summer.
