Crazy NFL Realignment Idea

Hello folks! I was having an idea during the off-season lull before the draft that I'm sure someone else has done in the past. I decided to come up with a new realignment of teams using only a map and not consider rivalries, TV revenue or any other consideration. Some rivalries were kept intact, some were blown up and others will have a more intense rivalry going forward. Since Roger Goodell has been making changes and tinkering with the game, why not just keep going right?

Well, here is my idea. I first looked at the map to see where the teams are located. Then I lumped the teams in groups of eight depending on the region of the US. I then went back and split the list into the four teams closest to each other. It is close, but not perfect. Feel free to laugh and insult if you like.

Here is the list:

NFC East (Atlantic)

Giants

Jets

Patriots

Eagles

AFC East (Inland)

Steelers

Bills

Ravens

Redskins

NFC North (Western)

Vikings

Packers

Rams

Bears

AFC North (Eastern)

Colts

Lions

Bengals

Browns

NFC South (Gulf/West)

Texans

Saints

Titans

Falcons

AFC South (Atlantic/East)

Dolphins

Buccaneers

Jaguars

Panthers

NFC West (Coastal)

Seahawks

49ers

Raiders

Chargers

AFC West (Inland)

Broncos

Cardinals

Chiefs

Cowboys

While I would hate to lose the rivalry to the Raiders and Chargers, having a regular rivalry with the Cowboys would be very entertaining and we still would keep the Chiefs as our long time rival. The chances of this happening are slim to none, but the thought is entertaining. That's all for now. Have a nice weekend.
