Bronco79's Mock 3.0

I think this one is actually my favorite. The balance it gives us, the depth we get and the flexibility provided for next offseason makes so much sense (To me, at least)

1st Jason Verrett, CB, TCU

With the SB on the line better depth at CB could save our bacon. Verrett is a real talent. He immediately pushes Carter down to 5th on the depth chart and competes with Kayvon for the third spot. The odds of Talib being out a few games is high. Having Verrett, Harris, and Webster sounds pretty good, actually. This pick also covers us in the event we cannot resign Harris next year.

2nd Jack Mewhort, OT, Ohio State

I'm really liking the idea of grabbing a tackle instead of a guard. Depending on how things shake out in camp the rookie could take RT or LG with Franklin manning the other spot. Combined with one of the 7th round options this has the potential to set our O-line straight going forward.

3rd Terrence Brooks, FS, Florida St.

This was truly a BPA pick for me. I found what I thought to be a quality pick here. Given Rahim and Q.Carter are both coming off injury AND both guys contracts are up next year this guy gives us an insurance policy this year and flexibility next off season. Brooks is a former corner with 4.42 speed and " is more physical than you might expect given his cornerback background, often dropping down into a linebacker-like role for the Seminoles." according to CBS. The knocks on him were his less than ideal height (5'11") though he has a good 38" vertical to compensate, only two years starting. Not bad for a third round FS. They did rank him # 71, so he would have to slide a bit.

4th Anthony Johnson, DT, LSU

CBS has this to say about him "Johnson's best attribute at this point is his initial quickness. He is frequently the first of LSU's defensive linemen off the ball, and was so even with Mingo and Montgomery still apart of this unit" He is a good run defender and can get pressure on the QB too. His only listed negative was he is far from polished. He gives us depth this year, but with Knighton, Vickerson and Unreign all hitting the market next year Johnson is also an insurance policy for next year.

5th Avery Williamson, ILB, Kentucky
6th Jeff Janis, WR, Saginaw Valley

I got these guys because the Bronco's have shown interest and they seem to fit the bill late in the draft. After the top few nothing really stood out to me at LB so I'll take the Broncos queue here. Janis looks to be one of the better late round WR's.

7th Brandon Thomas, G/T, Clemson or Spencer Long, G, Nebraska

These two have been discussed some around here. They're both going to spend the season on IR. Both were ranked much higher before injury. Next year having one of these guys on the team could look very smart.
