Breaking Down John Elway's Stats: Why Supporting Casts are So Important

His stats were far from stellar with a poor supporting cast for the majority of his career, but Elway's numbers became some of the best in the league when Mike Shanahan, Terrell Davis, and others came to town. Instead of writing off those stats as being inflated by a great offense, is the answer as simple as saying football is a team-driven game? I can't think of a better example of this theory than Number Seven himself.
