I probably got too excited watching this video on DenverBroncos.com of the new Denver Broncos rookie class getting fitted for their football equipment. After all, they were not running routes, they were basically in sweatpants, and they didn't even announce their jersey numbers for camp yet (although that is expected this week, before rookie minicamp begins).
Why am I excited? Because football. Even watching guys get measured for their helmets means we're inching closer to the season opener on September 7th.
"It's very exciting," Broncos first round draft pick Bradley Roby said. See? It's exciting. "You know, just picking my number out - the number I will be wearing for camp. Just fitting my helmet, looking at the colors and all that, it's definitely sinking in. I'm very excited about that."
Speaking of rookie minicamp - the festivities for those closed-to-the-public practices are set to begin this Friday, May 16th and run through Sunday the 18th. The Broncos offseason conditioning program will continue throughout the month of May, with the first OTAs (Phase III voluntary workouts) set to take place May 28th. Mandatory minicamp for rookies and veterans is from June 10-12th.
"It's set in a lot," Broncos second round draft pick Cody Latimer said as he was picking out his receiver's gloves. "I've gotten to meet everyone and gotten to see the facility finally. It's set in now, you know, and I'm ready to just get to work. This is happening, and it's about time. It's been awhile since we put one of them helmets on, so it feels good, and we're ready to get locked and loaded."
"I'm just ready, you know," said Roby. "I'm just excited to get out there with the rest of the guys and do what I do best."
