Below is similar wording to a petition I started over the Jim Irsay fiasco that's been grossly under reported. Please read there's more to it than media outlets are reporting. A poll is attached to guage if I'm way off base and a link to the care2 petition site is included. If you agree Please encourage as many signature's as possable as that's the only way I see Roger Goodell punishing one of the men who signs his paycheck.
March 17, 2014 Colt's owner Jim Irsay was arrested for allegedly operating a vehicle while intoxicated, faces four felony counts of possession of a controlled substance, and had $29,000 in cash plus bottles of prescription drugs in his vehicle. Even uglier two weeks before his arrest female acquaintance Kimberly Wundrum died of a suspected drug overdose in a $139,500 townhouse that Irsay allegedly bought for her. This is not just recreational use now he's being formally charged with two misdemeanors I guess 1.6 Billion net worth gets 4 felonies reduced to 2 misdemeanors before it even goes to court.
Quote from Gary Myers NYDailynews "Arrest of Colts owner puts Goodell in position to reinforce his belief that owners and executives must be held to an even higher standard than players. Goodell can discipline Irsay for violating the personal conduct policy even if he's not convicted."
It's been over 60 days and it's apparent the NFL League Office and people in Indianapolis are trying to sweep this under the rug. Since his arrest he's been involved in the Colts draft and has presented Indianapolis’s bid to host the 2018 Super Bowl. Recovery takes quite awhile and whether recovering or not this is exactly the same as allowing players to play games right after being arrested and failing drug tests. Allowing him back to work with no repercussions sends a bad message and shows they have no intent to hold this owner to any standard so unfortunately a petition is the only way to show displeasure to their lack of action.
Below is a quick summary of fines and penalties given to owner's, team's, and player's for actions that were completely trivial compared to this:
- Steelers owner Dan Rooney $25,000 for criticizing the officials in 2006
- New England Patriots team and coach Belichick $750000 for videotaping opponent's signals.
- New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton suspended for the 2012
season and the team fined $500000 for bounty gate.
On May 20, 2014 Goodell said at a league meeting that he respects the decision NBA Commissioner Adam Silver made in removing Donald Sterling from the NBA. "I think they made the right decision. I salute Adam Silver for being decisive. He made the right statement and he’s doing the right things," Goodell said.
While race is a totally different issue any morality scale should consider drug intoxication while driving, drug trafficking, and the death by apparent overdose of his "female acquaintance" far worse especially since the NFL is highly involved in supporting anti-drug campaigns to young people. Please show your support and make Roger Goodell back up his promise to hold owner's to a higher standard. If this could possibly get any media attention or support from players fans etc the petition is on care2 and I'm not that great at socail media so any help or support is greatly appreciated.
