2014 NFL Mock Draft: CB Bradley Roby to the New Orleans Saints with the 27th pick

Greg Bartram-US PRESSWIRE

With the 27th pick in the 2014 Mile High Report Community Mock Draft, New Orleans Saints GM OrangeCrush19 selects..

We were excited to be in a position this late in the draft with so much talent left on our Big Board. With needs at the WR/TE, CB, and LB positions, and athletes like Eric Ebron (TE, North Carolina) and C.J. Mosley (LB, Alabama) still available, we had a difficult decision to make. With our extension talk with Jimmy Graham at a standstill, Ebron would provide us insurance and add another offensive threat to an already prolific offense. With lackluster play from our LB corps this past season, Mosley was also an intruiging option. However, his knee and hip issues concern us coming into his rookie year.

We've made it no secret that we are looking to drastically improve our defense this offseason. After all, the Seahawks settled the debate that elite defenses win championships following their Superbowl victory. Our biggest defensive weakness this past season was our secondary, and we are looking to completely renovate it, not just give it a temporary face lift. We feel we had an excellent start so far with the addition of star Jairus Byrd in free agency. However, following the loss of Malcom Jenkins and Jabari Greer, we knew we needed to add another talent across from CB Keenan Lewis. And with Darqueze Dennard and Kyle Fuller being picked well before us, we felt the elite CB core of this draft dwindling. Luckily, there was one left.

With the 27th pick in the 2014 NFL Mile High Report Mock Draft, the New Orleans Saints select...

Bradley Roby, CB, Ohio State

We firmly believe Bradley Roby will provide us with the talent and athleticism to make an elite secondary in the NFL. Illustrated in his impressive combine, Robyis an instictive and quick corner (4.39 40-time). He will be sure to make quarterbacks like Matt Ryan and Cam Newton think twice before throwing to his side of the field. Despite his poor play this past year, we have no doubt that our coaching philosphy and system will be a perfect fit for the young man. In regards to his off-the-field issues, we are not in the least bit concerned. Our most recent acquisition, Champ Bailey, will be a perfect veteran mentor for Roby both on and off the field, for now and the future. We believe we have added one more piece to our championship run this season and we could not be happier. Jairus Byrd, Kenny Vaccaro, Keenan Lewis, Bradley Roby? Drool.
