The past few months we have been waiting for this day to come. It has arrived. I hope Elway's FO will have a very successful draft. We have plenty of reason to believe they will. 20 of the 23 draft picks from the past three years are still on our team. That's a great record that I hope continues. Looking back over the history of the Broncos at some of the great players and how many years they played with the Broncos causes me to wonder as the draft begins who will be the next Steve Atwater or Floyd Little or John Elway or Shannon Sharp or Tommy Jackson? How about Karl Mecklenburg, a 12th round draft pick. What a guy. What about Rod Smith. Wow! He was an undrafted free agent who played his entire career as a Bronco.
We have all been talking about who we think the FO should select. Some will be on target others like me most likely will be aways off. Yet we all love the game. I really like MHR and appreciate everyone who has worked so long and hard to make it possible to read what other fans think. Things have changed so much...
I remember the days when the Broncos didn't receive a lot of TV coverage. When I was a kid we would sit around the radio listening to the games. Having a football stadium was important but it was great to just have a football team. If memory serves me right the Broncos used the School of Mines in Golden for awhile to work out in the summers... I am not certain. [After writing this I remembered what another Blogger advised me to do, i.e. use the internet to check out my facts.] Unfortunately, I have made some errors in past posts and need to be much more careful. We all make mistakes and I am sorry for mine. Speaking of mistakes let's hope the Broncos don't make any during the draft. Pro-Football Reference.com states the Broncos had training camps at The Colorado School of Mines. That was along time ago.
The NFL has come such a long ways... The Broncos have come such a long ways... My hope is that the success of todays draft will last for years to come.
Good Luck Broncos!
