It's that time of the year again. Mile High Report begins our annual 90 players in 90 days roster breakdown. Last year went fairly well, but starting today and through August 27th, we'll break down every player on the Denver Broncos roster.
Name: Kayvon Webster
Position: CB
Height: 5'11" Weight: 198
Age: 25 Experience: 4
College: Southern Florida
Kayvon Webster saw his defensive snaps drop, but special teams worth soar, especially in the playoffs when he was the actual next man up replacing injured special teams captain David Bruton Jr. (now with Washington). This is a contract year for Webster and with a developing situation with Aqib Talib he may be the Broncos slot corner.
The Good: Joe DeCammilis can't stop saying great things about Webster. "He’s really worked at it to become one of the top guys going right now at this time of year," he said last season prior to the Super Bowl. Webster is in the final year of his contract after being drafted in the 3rd round of the 2013 NFL draft. With the likelihood of more defensive snaps increasing every day of this offseason Webster should probably expect a major pay boost at the end of this season.
The Bad: Webster really felt the loss of John Fox and Jack Del Rio, probably worse than anyone on the defense. He saw a dramatic decrease in his defensive snaps, all while maintaining his position on special teams. Denver has a decision coming up on whether Aqib Talib is worth $11 million in 2017 (and $12 million in 2018 and 2019) and they'll likely only be able to afford Webster or Talib.
Quotable: "We’ve got a lot of things to fix," Webster said. "Our No. 1 goal is still to be the No. 1 defense."
Status: Webster at worst should be at the 4th cornerback on the field. That is not to say that if Webster is needed he could confidently step in for any of the top three corners in the rotation. With this being a contract year I'd expect Webster to be in top form squarely inside of the No Fly Zone.
