Brandon Marshall Responds To Joey Porter

It wasn't going to take Brandon Marshall long to have a few words for Joey Porter.  Porter spent the post game talking about how soft Marshall was, how easy it was for defenders to get in Brandon's head.

After the day off yesterday leading up to Denver's match-up with Cleveland. Marshall was prepared to retort.

No need to build it up.  Marshall's words speak for themselves --

"Yeah, Joey Porter's one of them guys, when you got guys who talk a lot of trash, just want to talk about people or put people down, they have their own insecurities," Marshall said. "And his insecurities I don't know. But he's definitely one of those guys who all those muscles are popcorn muscles. He's soft."

What about defenders being able to get Marshall out of his game?

Getting in my head? Never. He can't get in my head because I'm always trying to make plays and I'm always trying to make things happen," Marshall insisted. "I'm never shutting down. I don't care if we're down by 40 points or we're up by 40 points, I'm never shutting it down, I'm always going to try to do my best and make plays."

Of course, then there is Porter's alledged night time activites --

"You know, we hear stories floating around the league all the time about him as far [as being] in nightclubs dancing with his shirt off like a girl or in the playground getting beat up back in California," Marshall said. "He's one of those guys that no matter how big he is, he can still get knocked on his butt and he's soft. He's soft at heart and you can tell by the way he talks.

"And his nickname is 'Peezy.' I don't know what 'Peezy' is," Marshall added, then paused and leaned forward to deliver the punctuation: "Joey!"

Listen.  The Dolphins got the better end of the deal because they won the game.  That won't stop either one of these guys from going at it through the media and it should be fun to see this back and forth continue.  Even better, depending on where both teams finish, the Broncos could play Miami in 2009.

The Broncos come off the BYE bruised, battered, and written off by most fans and media across the country.  They are missing their best defensive player, and injuries have taken most of Jay Cutler's weapons from him.  All this, just in time for a visit from the Miami Dolphins, a team exceeding most expectations this season, a team that believes it is still in the playoff race in the AFC.  Sounds like the visiting team might have the advantage, right??  Let's find out.

It's Broncos/Dolphins. Who has "The Edge"?

MHR Chalk Talk -- Week 9 - Miami at Denver

YOUR SOURCE FOR THE VERY BEST

IN DENVER BRONCO PRE-GAME ANALYSIS

MILEHIGHREPORT.COM

Dolphinsatbroncos_medium

Denver has a high powered offense that has sputtered a bit since teams adjusted to their spread offense.  That offense hasn't relied much on the famous zone block run as of late, and Denver's scores have decreased as the season goes on.  The defense has been awful, ranking in the basement in terms of yards allowed both in rushing and passing.  Denver's star defensive player is out about four weeks (Champ Bailey) and the starting strong side LB is out for good.  That's the bad news.

The good news is a division lead, and the return of some injured players on offense.  Also, a young men is gearing up for his first professional start.  Can you hear the whistle blowing?  Will it be enough against Miami?

Miami is an odd team.  They've beaten teams they weren't expeccted to (NE, SD, and BUF), and lost to eaiser teams (ARI, NYJ, HOU).  They're a fun team to watch in the running department (the Wildcat, which is kind of a single wing / run option spin off), have a great blitzer of the weak side in 3-4 OLB Porter, and play the pass well behind a short ranged but deadly accurate Pennington.

What can we expect, and why?  Answers follow below the fold...

Miami Dolphins @ Denver Broncos -- Wednesday Presser

HEAD COACH MIKE SHANAHAN

On the difference between Miami this season and last season

“I didn’t study them a lot last year, but they are very impressive. They are playing some great offense, some great defense and they are keeping people off balance on both sides of the ball. They have (beaten) some good football teams by dominating a couple of those games, so they are very impressive.”

On Miami QB Chad Pennington

“Any time you are able to go into a situation and get a quarterback like Pennington—an experienced quarterback that has played and understands defenses—to come in and help the franchise immediately is something that you don’t expect. Very seldom do you have the Drew Brees’s out there, the Chad Penningtons. But when you come in as a new head football coach and are able to have a quarterback with that type of experience, I think you feel very lucky.”

On Miami’s ‘Wildcat’ formation

“You watch it quite a bit in college. You watch a lot of these formations and some of these plays at the collegiate level, especially scouting a lot of the players from Arkansas the year before. It is not like we haven’t seen it before. We worked against that when we faced the Raiders. We thought we might see it in the first game but we didn’t. They are having a lot of success with it, and (RB Ronnie) Brown is an exceptional back. Any time you have a guy with his type of skills and you put him at that position, he can make plays when nothing is there. It has a lot to do with type of offense and he is skilled enough to throw the football as well. It just presents some problems.

“It is a plus. Regardless of what type of offense you are running, if you can do things that keep a defense off balance and make them spend extra time (preparing), it helps you.”

On T Ryan Clady

“He has done a great job. You can’t ask a rookie to do much more than he has done. He is there every day, he has been very consistent and hopefully he keeps on getting better.

“You never really know until you have a guy come in. Obviously we felt very good about him before we drafted him. At the position we drafted him at (No. 12 overall), we didn’t think he would be there. We were very happy and surprised, and he has lived up to the billing.”

After a 1 week hiatus, THE EDGE returns with a battle between the Broncos(4-1) and the Jacksonville Jaguars(2-3).  These teams met in Denver in Week 3 of last season, with the Jags "man-handling" the Broncos, winning 23-14.   This year's Jags team isn't nearly as physical and is missing some key components, especially on the offensive line.  Can the Broncos take advantage and keep up with their winning ways?
