Denver Broncos 2008 Draft Preview

With Mike Shanahan firmly on the hot seat heading into 2008, the Broncos must target players with their first two picks that can step into the lineup right away. Following the retirement of left tackle Matt Lepsis, it is highly likely that the team will fill that hole in round number one, with either Boise State's Ryan Clady or Vanderbilt's Chris Williams seen as the main targets there. The club's poor track record of finding free agent defensive tackles might prompt it to use its second-round pick to bolster that area, though the recent injury mishap involving No. 1 wideout Brandon Marshall could switch the focus to an available target like Mario Manningham or Early Doucet, both of whom should fall to the second. Seven of Denver's nine picks will come in rounds 4-7, and depth at linebacker, running back, and in the secondary figures to be a primary focus of those selections.
