Jacksonville, FL (Sports Network) - The Jacksonville Jaguars signed offensive tackle Charles Spencer on Thursday, and placed tackle Richard Collier on the reserve/non-football injury list. Spencer, a third-round selection by Houston in 2006, started the first two games of that season for the Texans before breaking his leg. The Pitt product spent the 2007 season on the physically unable to perform list, and was waived by the Texans on July 22. Collier remains in critical condition Thursday after he was shot early Tuesday morning outside an apartment complex in Jacksonville. The 26-year-old and his former Jaguars teammate Kenneth Pettway had been out at clubs on Monday night into Tuesday morning, and were following two women they had met back to an apartment complex. While the men waited in a Cadillac Escalade for the women to return from the apartment, someone walked up and fired several times at Collier, who was driving. Pettway was not injured. Collier is in his third season with the Jaguars. He appeared in four games with one start for Jacksonville last season, and was listed on the Jaguars' depth chart as Khalif Barnes' backup at left tackle. Collier was also expected to play on special teams for the club.
